Cub Pack and Scout Troop Notes
03/05/04
After the excitement of Trabolgan it was back to the excitement of the Cub Pack and Scout Troop Meetings last weekend. The beach in front of the "Cloghas" was where the meetings took place. The reason this venue was chosen was that it was the best area from which to go kite flying! Each Clan had a kite which the Clan Members took turns to fly. The wind conditions were perfect with a light breeze blowing in from the sea helping the kites soar to enormous heights with little or no effort on behalf of the Cubs. The best flyers included the Fay brothers, Alex and Greg while Dylan and Conor Lawless also showed how it should be done. The kite that reached the heighest altitude was the one flown by our other set of brothers Jack and Adam Dee.
When it came time for the Scouts to show off their aeronautical skills something went missing! In the space of half an hour the wind almost completely died down leaving the Scouts to have to work very hard to get their kites airborne. Eventually all succeeded after a heck of a lot of running up and down the beach. Unfortunately the Eagle Patrol were totally unable to get their kite airborne. They had the only stunt kite on display but no matter how hard they tried it just refused to take off it was a case of "Houston we have a problem!" Marco having listened to the good advice of Muller soon got his kite to great heights while other Scouts such as Jack seemed intent on using their kites as 'dive bombers'. The Panther Patrol on the night, made up of Cearbhail and Alan proved very capable as they both sped up and down the beach. Following the fun on the beach and back at the den a draw was made from amongst the individual Patrols to see who would go home with kites. So in the coming days if you see any kites flying you will know who is on the end of them.
Attention
There will be no Cub Meeting this coming Saturday Night 8th May, Meetings will resume as normal the following week. The Scout Meeting takes place on the 8th May at the later time of Nine O'Clock until Eleven Thirty.
