Cub Pack News

Making the most of the good weather it was decided to take a walk. Before leaving the Leaders explained about two badges that the Cubs are at present working towards getting the first being Tenderfoot this is the first stage of four Awards, the others being bronze arrow, silver arrow and gold arrow. The other badge is Artist Skills Badge the Cubs have being drawing pictures over the last two meetings getting ready to start this badge. A Skills Badge is a badge that Cubs can be awarded for being interested in or really good at something. Some badges will need help from Leaders, some the Cubs may try themselves away from the Cub Pack maybe with help from Parents or Family, and some will need the help of Cub Friends. But for each and every badge it is very important that a Cub should just ‘do your best’.

Eamonn and Gearoid gave each of the Cubs a safety jacket for the walk and once everyone had a buddy we headed off in the direction of town.

Stopping at the Moresby Buoy, explaining to the Cubs what it was and where it came from. They were told that the buoy was a Wigham Light Buoy that was placed over the wreck of the British Sailing Ship called the ‘Moresby’. Walking along the Causeway the Cubs all noted how high the tide was. Passing ‘John’s Castle’ and down to the park Eamonn asked the Cubs about the timing of the lighthouse signals and about the green and red marker buoys I the harbour. With the clock ticking it was back to the den where each Cub was given a ‘Notice’ about next weeks meeting being at the earlier time of 3.30pm in Clonea Strand Hotel Bowling Alley where we shall see how good their bowling skills are, the cost oft his meeting is €3.00 and will finish at 5.00pm.

At the end of the meeting each of the Cubs was given a print out of the Cub Scout Prayer and everyone said it together before going home.

There were two new Clan Leaders or Sixers made they are Conor Harty and Malachy Lawless who join Owen Kirkham who is already a Sixer. New Seconders were also announced they are Ruairi Conway, David Sheehan and Sean Kiely. Well done to them all they will be presented with their badges at next weeks meeting.
