Whit Weekend Scout Notes 2006
04/05/06
On the scouting and cub front it was a case of taking things easy last holiday weekend. No meetings were held for either section. As it tuned out to be such a glorious weekend weather wise it was a case of everyone recharging the batteries for the run up to annual camp in Fota no doubt! On Monday afternoon a number of eager painters and decorators gathered in Glenshelane to give the cabin a much needed second coat of preservative. Work soon got underway and with so many eager helping hands the task was soon finished. Some were heard to remark it must have been the thought of Fintan’s tea and chocolate biscuits that spurred everyone on. Helpers/painters on the day included Fintan, Brian, Muller, Brendan, Eamonn, Gearoid, Jimmy, Mary, Jenny . At this point in time the cabin is almost complete and with only the electricity and water to be connected up the day is not far off when we will make our first official use of it and then go to have the official opening of this magnificent new facility.
This coming weekend Saturday 10th the cub and scout meetings are being held in the glen. The cub meeting begins at midday and finishes at 2.30 p.m. Cubs must wear their neckerchief and bring a packed lunch. Also vital is swim gear and a towel better still bring a wet suit and for the feet also pack an old pair of runners. Also important each cub should bring along a cheap but flyable kite. The scout meeting being held also in the glen begins at three thirty and finishes at six. As with the cubs the scouts should bring along a wet suit and old runners/bootees. On the list also is an inflatable boat/bed or similar type beach equipment. As the scouts will be cooking for their supper each individual scout must bring a disposable barbeque, drink and food to cook for themselves and of course knife and fork etc. The scouts have been and are now once again reminded not to attend this meeting without something to cook and something to cook on!
