Cub Pack Meeting

The honours of saying of the Cub Scout Prayer this week went to Conor and the rest of the Cub Pack joined in with him. Michael and Brendan called ‘Roll Call’. Eamonn got ready to play a few games, first a game of North, South, East and West then some Crab Soccer and to finish off a few minutes of Soccer.

Each of the Cubs was then given a piece of rope and went through the tying of the ‘Reef Knot’ that was learned as part of last weeks meeting. Once everyone was tying the ‘Reef Knot’ without any trouble Brendan then showed the Cubs two more simple knots. These knots were what is called ‘stopper’ knots, which can be used to stop a knot or lashing from opening. First they were shown the ‘Thumb Knot’. It was explained that making the figure six starts most knots. The next knot was the ‘Figure Of Eight’ these were quickly picked up and learned by all.

All the Cubs were given a note about the up coming weekend Cub Weekend to Mount Melleray Scout Centre, 23rd – 25th February. The cost of this weekend is €34-00 that covers food, board and activities for the full weekend. Everyone is to be at the Main Entrance to Mount Melleray Scout Centre for Eight O’Clock in their Full Uniform.

Those Cubs that were not present at last weeks Cub Pack Meeting were then presented with their ‘Tenderfoot Badge’, the first step in the Cub Scout test work scheme.

Next weeks meeting is at the usual time from seven to eight and is Full Uniform.

Before the meeting ended the Cubs answered the question they were given during the meeting last week when the Cub Scout and Scout Motto were being talked about. They were asked to find out what the dot over the M in the Old Irish of the Scout Motto. It is instead of the H. Bí Ullamh.

Conor finished the meeting with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer along with the other Cubs. After which everyone ‘Fell Out’ and went home.

Scout Troop Meeting

The meeting began shortly after eight o’clock with the saying of the Scout Prayer. Leader Kieran Harty who is recovering with a broken leg joined the meeting. As the Patrols went to their corners they were told that it was time a Patrol Activity was done, this is to be done before 17th March. As Gearoid did ‘Roll-Call’, Eamonn, Gearoid and Michael then did Uniform Inspections. A game was organised by Sandy with the help of David. Well we are not too sure if David was much help actual. It was a team game where one Scout took the lead and organised their team members. After this is was a game of North, South, East and West.

It was time to talk about the St Patrick’s Day Parade. All Scouts will be expected to be in attendance. There will be something very special, as part of this years float, all will be revealed on the day.

Each of the Scouts present was given a notice for the County Scout Fun Weekend in Mount Melleray on 23rd to 25th February.

The meeting ended with everyone saying the Scout Prayer and ‘Fall Out’.

Meetings next week are Full Uniform and start at Seven for Cubs and Eight for Scouts.
