Cub News
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have an adult call along to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. The normal meeting is on a Saturday Night from seven to eight.
Cub Pack Meeting
There was no Cub Pack Meeting because of the Bank Holiday Weekend. The Leaders were still busy attending a Leaders Meeting in Waterford City about the upcoming Cub Fun Day which will be held over the weekend of the 28th 29th April, the date and further details will be handed out on a note for everyone at Saturday Nights Meeting, but it sounds like a lot of Fun.
Scout News
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. The normal meeting is on a Saturday Night from eight to nine.
Scout Troop Meeting
There was no Scout Troop Meeting this past week but a number of Scouts and Leaders were down in the Scout Den getting ready for the Waterford Scout County Challenge Weekend in Rathgormac on the weekend of the 13th, 14th & 15th April 2007. There will be Scouts from all the Scout Troops in the County attending and over 100 Scouts are expected. The Scouts will be Camping out and each Scout has been given a list of the gear they should bring. If they have any questions they should contact one of the two Patrol Leaders for the weekend Joe Conway or Aaron Fraher.
There are two Patrols going from Abbeyside, this weekend should be a great chance for the Scouts to learn some very useful skills, and try out some of the ones they have learned. Information on the weekend can be seen on the blogspot, http://www.abbeyside.blgspot.com/. We hope that everyone has a great weekend. Scouts should be at the hostel in Rathgormac between 18:30 and 19:30 for registration. You do not need your Scout Uniform, but you must have your neckerchief.
Venture Group Meeting
In last weeks notes we did not have a full list of those present for the first Venture Meeting, those present were Cormac O’Mahony, Marco Hanrahan, James Wilkinson, Patrick Fennell, Cearbhall Turraoin, Rhys Mitchell, and Jack Morrissey excused was Cathal Reynolds. My apologies.
If there are any of the Ventures available to give a hand during the Count Challenge Weekend if they contact one of the Leaders. Thank You. If they can help with the Cub Meeting on Saturday Night that would be great also.
Past Scouts
It was great over the Saint Patrick’s and Easter Bank Holiday Weekends to meet and see so many of the Men who have passed through the doors of the Abbeyside Scout Den while they were home to visit, and still hear them speak with great fondness of the Old 4th Waterford. Once a Scout always a Scout ……..
Old 4TH Waterford
Some fellows never go to camp without hot water bottles
Impossible - it isn’t done,
And some wear muffs and mittens,
Yes - and woollies round their throttles;
Impossible - it isn’t done.
But we of course are quite unlike
those namby mamby chappies,
We’ve always been extremely tough
Since we discarded nappies.
Chorus
It’s the old 4th Waterford that’s made us what we are,
It’s the old 4th Waterford that’s been our guiding star.
Some live way up Sexton street and some way down Strandside,
But all of us whatever street,
Belong to Abbeyside.
So this is what we Scouts until our dying day will sing
4th Waterford, Hurragh!
Some fellows go out hiking carrying coats and mackintoshes,
Impossible - it isn’t done,
And some folks take umbrellas,
Yes - and gaiters and galoshes.
Impossible - it isn’t done,
But fellows such as these of course,
Are not at all like us;
We don’t take coats in case it rains,
We always take a bus.
It’s the old 4th Waterford that’s been our guiding star.
Some live way up Sexton street and some way down Strandside,
But all of us whatever street,
Belong to Abbeyside.
So this is what we Scouts until our dying day will sing
4th Waterford, Hurragh!
Some fellows go out hiking carrying coats and mackintoshes,
Impossible - it isn’t done,
And some folks take umbrellas,
Yes - and gaiters and galoshes.
Impossible - it isn’t done,
But fellows such as these of course,
Are not at all like us;
We don’t take coats in case it rains,
We always take a bus.
Chorus
Some camp cooks always spoil the broth
Or burn the breakfast bacon.
Impossible - it isn’t done,
Some do their onions to a turn
And fail to put the steak on.
Impossible - it isn’t done,
But we of course serve splendid dishes,
Just like high society,
We never have two meals alike,
We’ve 57 varieties.
Chorus
