Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
This weeks meeting was started by Conor saying the cubs scouts prayer. Then Gearoid took up the subs and introduced everybody to new cub Aidan. Everybody then soon got warmed up with a game of North,South,East and West which was organised by Michael. This soon became a knockout game and the last two standing were clan leaders Darragh and Ruairi with Darragh winning this one. Then it was time to play a game of volleyball and with four clans there was a straight semi-final. The first one was between the Tiger clan and the Panther clan with the Tiger clan coming out on top. Then the Wolf clan faced up to the Kestrel clan with the Wolf clan being the victors. The Wolf and Tiger clans then faced off in the final and after some questionable decisions by referee Michael without consultation from his "linesmen", the Tiger clan were the victors. Jordan Cliffe then did his report as part of his book reader badge and then answered questions from the rest of the cub pack on the other books that he had read over the summer months. Well done Jordan. The pack then sat down in their clans and started to do their drawings based on their own ideas of cub scouting. These drawings will be presented to the county at the start of December and the best one will be put on a neckerchief for the County Camp Weekend next year. Gearoid then reminded everyone about the overnight in Mount Melleray the following night and handed out a notice to anyone who didn't have one. Conor then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.

OVERNIGHT MOUNT MELLERAY
Everyone arrived at Mount Melleray Scout centre last Friday night full of Adrenalin and anticipation. By the time Seanie, Brendan and Gearoid arrived Muller had shown most of the cubs where they would be staying for the night. Gearoid took up subs for the stay in Melleray and then relieved the parents of their own duties, some of whom it must be said seemed to be extremely eager to get away. Once everybody was accounted for, everyone was allocated a bed according to what clan they were in, then we all went to the " half acre " to play some games and release some of the energy building up inside. Then about ten fifteen Gearoid gave all the cubs a hi-vis jacket and together with the scouts and the other leaders headed for our hike from Melleray down to the grotto. Some of the cubs were heard to be complaining about the slowness in the pace while a certain Leader did nothing but complain when we got back about how fast it was. As usual no names. When we did get back from the hike Brendan had been busy in the kitchen cooking us a wide variety of pizzas which hit the spot perfectly. Then it was time to settle down for bed and after a few reminder from the leaders about how close everybody was to home we all eventually got some sleep. Saturday morning saw us up early for breakfast and once that was over it was time for a wash and a clean. Then time to pack our gear especially for those leaving early to play matches. We then had to make sure that our room in which we slept was left in the same condition we found it. Once that was done and our gear was down at the main door ready to be collected Brendan brought the remaining cubs down to the climbing wall where some thrills and spills was had by all until everybody was collected by their parents. Everyone went home happy with I'm sure some stories to tell.
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.

Scout Troop – News & Information
The Scout Troop were overnight in Mount Melleray Scout Activity and Sports Centre on Friday Night 19th October. They gathered at the Centre for nine O’clock and settled into their room for the night in Eamon Macha with the Cub Pack across the landing and the Leaders room in between. The first Activity for the scouts was the Climbing Wall after which the scouts joined the Cub Pack getting some fresh air, by walking down to the Grotto at the bottom of the hill, everyone could be seen in the distance wearing their Hi Vis jackets with the 4th Waterford Logo on the back (thanks again Martin for the design, still no royalties). Back at the centre the Scouts enjoyed some soup and rolls with Kevin and Chris cooking what foods they brought with them, they was even some pizza left after the Cubs to be enjoyed. Soon it was time to go to bed and sleep quickly followed (well that is the official story).
The Scout were allowed to stay asleep for a little while after the Cubs but soon were up and enjoying their breakfast after which they tidied up their room before heading to the games room for some fun soon eleven o’clock arrived and time to head for home.

If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years.
