Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting 21/02/08
Aidan started our meeting this week with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer before attendance were then taken up by Michael. Everyone then stood at alert at the end of the den while Gearoid named out the new clans. The main difference is we now have a fifth clan with one or two people changing clans. The new clan leader and assistant clan leaders are Sheamie Fennell and Jamie McKelvie respectively. These positions like all others are on a trial basis and can be changed at the leaders discretion. We then tried out one of our favourite games, the relay race game, to see how the new clan formations would mix, and also to see could anyone break the round towers domination on this game. After the first round this didn't look likely as the result was the same with Ruari's clan winning but at the second time of asking clan Cu Chulan pulled out all the stops to take the victory.
It was then time to practice our singing for the county Variety Show in Ferrybank during April so Darragh and Ruari started the rest of the cub pack off in our rendition of "Ireland's call" and as other cubs got into the swing of it they joined the two lads up front. More practice is planned for this week with the intention of getting everyone up the front and eventually on the stage. We then played a new game for the current cub pack called "dodge ball". Brendan explained the rules and it because of the nature of the game it was refereed by Michael, Cearbhall, Brendan and Gearoid with as usual the referees word being final. The winner of this game was Darragh. Everyone then got into their new clans, Aidan said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting 21/02/08
Meldan started our meeting this week with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. Attendance was then done by Gearoid before he told everyone the name of the new clan and its members for the benefit of those who were absent the previous week. While everyone was at alert Gearoid then went through each Cubs Uniform to see if they had their badges sewn on in the right places and if not were told where to put them on their jumper. Anyone with corrections to make has up until March 17th to do so. We then played a couple of games of dodge ball which is proving to be very competitive as the weeks unfold and the referees decisions being questioned which are not in the rules. One of the games had to be restarted as a certain referee had not read the rule book clearly and gave an unfair advantage to one of the teams by giving them some of the balls when they had none left. We then continued to practice for the County Variety Show at the beginning of April. This is getting better with each week and we look forward to a big turnout on the day in question. Gearoid then gave out Clan Badges to those who didn't have them and also to the New Clan in the Cub Scout Pack. Meldan then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.New

Scout Troop – News & Information
Scout Cooking Challenge
The long awaited Cooking Challenge was finally here. Just after the New Year each Patrol picked out a number of food items from a list, which they would have to put together into a main course. The Eagle Patrol picked out Beef, Rice, Cabbage, Courgette, Peas, and Mushroom. The Tiger Patrol picked Chicken, Noodles, Bean Sprouts, Tomato, Carrot, and Peppers.
The meeting began at seven with the Scouts falling into their Patrols for the saying of the Scout Prayer. The meeting this week was a ‘mufti ’one (non uniform). With the Scout prayer said it was straight down to the Cooking, each Patrol got their boxes from the store and the cookers for under the stage. Once everything was set up the Scouts got started with the food prep and to the business of cooking. Soon the Scout Hall was filled with the aroma of cooking food. The Eagle Patrol produced a stir fry of beef and vegetables on a bed of rice, while the Tiger Patrol had szechwan chili chicken with vegetables. Both meals were very good and were soon gone from the plates of the Scouts. All that was left was tidy up, before saying the Scout Prayer to finish up the meeting.
Cunnigar Day Out
On Saturday at One O’Clock the Abbeyside Scout Troop gathered at the car park of the Cunnigar, Ring, Co. Waterford. A few games were played first on the beach to get everyone warmed up. The weather was overcast with the threat of some rain. This did not dampen the spirit of the Scouts. Eamonn was in charge for today as the Scouts were doing the last parts of their Photographer Merit Badge. Before we set off down the Cunnigar the Scouts had a bit of a Barbeque of sausages and burgers (Lamb and Beef), after which they ate lunch, hungry lot our Scouts. Eamonn then went on to explain what type of photo’s that he wanted the Scouts to take. First off he wanted them to take a picture of the lighthouse across the harbour, then a picture of a shell, and also a picture of a bird. For the picture of the lighthouse at Ballinacourty it had to be done in one take. The picture of the lighthouse was taken from the car park. We headed off down the beach where various shells could be found and also plenty wild birds. As we walked the beach there was plenty of photo opportunity to capture the images of shells and birds alike. On the way back to the Car Park there was time to have a quick game of ‘manhunt’ to be played, which everyone enjoyed. A group photo was taken on the rocks before the final stroll back to the waiting parents.
