Cub Pack News Meeting Held 09/12/06
It was Sean who led the Cub Pack in the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. With the Annual Scout Mass on the next day, after Gearoid did ‘Roll’, Cubs were asked to try saying the ‘Prayers Of The Faithful’ the Leaders were very impressed with how well each of the Cubs did.
The next part of ‘Tenderfoot’ badge was talked about which included World Scout Emblem, use of the Scout Sign, Scout Handshake, Scout Salute, and World Scouting.
A game of X in the corner was played to keeping the Cubs running from one end of the den to the other. Volley Ball with a Beach Ball was then played it was a one sided game with Tom‘s beating Conor’s team.
The Cubs were told about next weeks meeting being in the Sports Centre and to wear their sports gear. They were shown the new uniform Caps which are now back in stock with the Leaders for €15-00.
The meeting ended with the Cub Scout Prayer being said. All present were reminded about the Mass in the morning.

Annual Scout Mass Sunday 10th December 2006
The Group Annual Mass was held on Sunday 10th December in Abbeyside at 9.30am. This is was a Full Uniform event. Parents, family and friends joined the Troop for this special Mass to mark the year just past, the coming year, and praying for members of the 4th Waterford past and present, living and deceased. The Cubs and Scouts provided readers of the ‘Prayers Of The Faithful’, an Altar Server and brought up the ‘Gifts’ for the Offertory Procession. Gifts included the Group Neckerchief and the World Scout Flag. Well done to all the Cubs, Scouts and Leaders who turned up on this very windy and wet morning. Very special thanks to Fr. Doherty for saying Mass and for the Chapel Woman for all her help, to Fintan for organising Flags and Stands, to Jack for writing ‘Prayers of the Faithful’ and to everyone else whom help out, Thank You.
Cub Pack and Scout Group Getting Active
This weekend we made our annual visit to the Sports Centre in Dungarvan. The Cub Pack were first to arrive as they were scheduled from two o’clock to half past three. Michael organised a kick around while Eamonn and Brendan did ‘Roll’ and waited for the last Cubs to arrive. With a game in the running the Cubs fitted in to teams as they arrived, but the game was stopped after what they call in the Premiership “an over enthusiastic tackle” on Sean. With the Leaders attending to Sean the game was stopped. The Cub Pack was then broken into two Teams. The Team Captains were “Birthday Boy” Eoghan Burke and Owen O’Hara. The Cubs lined up to work off some of that extra energy with some warm up exercises.
It was time for some competition with both Teams lining up for relay game like those played in the Scout Den, but a lot longer in distance. As always the Teams started and finished at “Alert”. Basketball skills were also tested with the two teams taking turns trying to score a basket, each Cub got three throws.
SPL Michael then went into Goal for a Penalty shoot out, his brother Robert did his best to put the ball in the net but could not. As the Scouts arrived the Cubs played a game of Soccer with the rules being explained before they started, Eamonn Gearoid and Michael kept order while Brendan went and did ‘Roll’ with the Scouts, which did not take long as only 11 Scouts attended, less than half the Group. It had been planned to run an indoor inter Patrol soccer blitz, but with only Two Patrol Leaders present that was not going to happen. As with the Cubs a few simple warm up exercises were done, sorry attempted by the Scouts. Some even had difficulty keeping up with Brendan. Meanwhile the Cubs time had come to an end and everyone was wished all the best for the Holiday Season.
With the Scouts deciding on their two Teams with Joe and Cormac as Captains. Had they learned Team Motivation on their recent PL Training Weekend, the answer No. First up was a simple relay game with the Scouts using a neckerchief as a baton to pass to the next runner. Before starting the Leaders made sure that one of each of the three sets of brothers had one on each team. Joe’s Team won the first relay because one of Cormac’s Team, Kevin, was still talking at the end of the race Joe’s team had finished before them also. Joe’s team were soon leading 3-0, a piggyback race then showed Joe’s Team were on form as well as listening to the instructions. After this humiliation by Joe and his Team it was time for some Penalty’s to be taken. Once again SPL Michael Organ took up the job of Goalkeeper. Alex Fay was the only person to score a goal. Basketball shots next with some very lucky to hit the back board, it was all going to be decided on a game of soccer, following indoor soccer rules. Once again Joe and his team ran riot with Gaols from Declan Leonard, Joe Conway.
It was then time for the main match Scouts against the Leaders Selection. Playing with the Leaders were Joe Conway, Cormac O’Mahony, Michael Organ, Gearoid Fraher and Brendan Kiersey. For the Scouts were Aaron Fraher, Tony O’Mahony, Declan Leonard, Kevin Brazel, Alex Fay, Conor Lawless, Gregory Fay, Dylan Lawless and Ben Cliffe. Ref for the match was Eamonn Terry.
The side were level but it took great skill as Michael Organ scored the first Gaol for the Leaders Selection. Despite some very good shots on the leaders goal by Declan, Alex and some of the others it was Gearoid who put the ball in the net next putting the leader well in front scoring again Michael kept the pressure on. But Joe caught in his own back corner did a miss timed back pass to give Kevin a chance to push the ball past Brendan’s fingertips and into the net. But it was the Leaders who went on to Victory.
The meeting then finished up and like the Cubs everyone was wished a happy and peaceful Christmas.
