Cub Pack Meeting
Ryan was the Cub that lead the rest of the Cub Pack in the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer after which the Leaders said well done to the five Cubs that travelled to Ferrybank Parish Hall, Waterford for the Waterford Scout County, Annual Cub Scout quiz, they were Eoghan Burke, Ryan Keane, Cal Franklin, Darragh Mc Grath and Conor Foley along with their ‘Monkey’ mascot. Thanks once again to Conor’s Dad Philip for bringing the Cubs there and back. Gearoid and Brendan did ‘Roll Call’. With the Cubs still in their Clans everyone was told about the Unit weekend to Mount Melleray at the end of this month, the dates being 22nd-25th February. A note will be given to everyone next week.
It was time to do some rope work. The Cubs were shown how to do the ‘Reef Knot’, some had been shown how to do this very useful knot before and were quick to remember, like Mathew, Sean and Conor who then helped the other Cubs to learn.
The Cubs present were then Awarded the Tenderfoot Badge that is the first stage of their test work scheme and will now start on the Bronze Arrow Badge, some parts which already have been covered in earlier meetings. The Tenderfoot badge is to be worn on the left sleeve below the 4th Waterford Badge. This is one of four stage badges all of which are worn in a cluster that make a square. Tenderfoot, Bronze Arrow, Silver Arrow and Gold Arrow.
The Scout Motto is ‘Be Prepared’ and the Cub Scout Motto is ‘Do Your Best’, this was discussed with the Cubs and they all have a question for their Teachers when they go to school Monday.
Some quick relay games were then played before forming up in their Clans.
Next weeks meeting is at the usual time from seven to eight and is Full Uniform.
The meeting ended as it started with Ryan leading the rest of the Cubs in the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. The Cub Scout Pack then stood to ‘Alert’ and ‘Fell Out’ to go home.
Scout Troop Meeting
As the Scouts entered the Scout Den they formed into their Patrols for the saying of the Scout Prayer. Once at their Patrol Corners the Scouts were to talk of a Patrol activity and revise their knots, as these would be examined later as part of the meeting. Gearoid did ‘Roll Call’, while David, Sandy and Marco tidied up and folded the ‘Hi-Vis’ vests after the hike last Sunday. Uniform inspections were done with some Scouts not having their uniform on at all.
The Patrols lined up for a quick game of the ‘card’ relay. Some of the Patrols found this more difficult than, others it was the Panther Patrol with APL Tony O’Mahony in charge who won.
It was then time to see who knew their knots and who did not. Any of the Scouts that were unsure of their knots were then shown how to tie them. The knots covered were, Reef Knot, Bowline, Figure Of Eight, Sheet Bend and Clove Hitch.
As the meeting was nearing the end it was back into Patrol formation. The Scouts were told about the Unit weekend in Mount Melleray. Also a brief talk was given to all about the running of meetings and Annual Camp.
The saying of the Scout Prayer and ‘Fall Out’ finished this weeks meeting. Next weeks meeting is at the usual time and is Full Uniform.
