An Information Sheet, and Permission to Camp Form, was handed out at the meeting Saturday Night and need to be back to Brendan at the meeting this Saturday Night. Please be sure that this form is FULLY completed with no blank spaces, if you put N/A or Unknown in these spaces, thank you.

Thursday 26th in the afternoon has been set out as Visitors Day. If you have any questions ask any of the Leaders.

Cub Scout Pack Meeting
The Cub Scout Pack had their final meeting until September. It was a very different meeting in many ways, first of all it was at the much earlier time of half past three. There was an air of excitement and anticipation as the Cubs entered the Scout Den. Gearoid called all present to Clan formation for the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. John had the honours to start the meeting by saying the Cub Scout Prayer with the rest of the Cub Pack joining in. ‘Roll Call’, starting with Ruari’s Clan and then Patrick’s Clan. Altogether there were ten Cubs present, Ryan, Cal, Mathew, Jordan, John, Robert, Colm, Patrick, Ruari, and Darragh.

It was then out of the Den for the short walk across the causeway over the bridge and to the Cinema to see Shriek 3. Gearoid organised the tickets as the Cubs and Brendan waited. It was into Cinema No. 2 to see a very enjoyable film. There was plenty of laughter from Cubs and Leaders alike.

With the film over it was out into the fresh air and the brief stroll out to Mc Donald’s where there were tables reserved. There was a member of staff on hand to take the orders and soon came back to give everyone what they had asked for, which was quickly eaten. Time as always was starting to go against us so it was back to the Village and the Scout Den.
Waiting for us at the Scout Den was a visitor from America being Scout Brendan Nagle. Brendan is a Senior Patrol Leader with Troop 1, Vinings in Georgia. Wearing his Class A Uniform Shirt of the BSA (Boy Scouts of America). Brendan was introduced to the Cub Pack and stood in for a photograph with them and Cub Section Leader Gearoid Fraher.
Gearoid gave the Cubs final notices for the summer, this was about the Book Reader Badge. The first part, which involved reading three, books one that must be factual. The other parts will be covered as part of meetings when the Cubs start back in September. Gearoid also reminded the Cub Pack of the Home Help Badge being done and that the last part of that Badge would also be done in September, that will involve sewing the badge onto their Uniform Jumper.

The meeting finished up with John saying the Cub Scout Prayer. Gearoid wished them all a nice ‘Summer’ (if we ever get one), and told them he would see them all in September when the Meetings will be on a Thursday Night from 7pm to 8.30pm. Gearoid will be in contact with everyone by post before then to give them a reminder. Scout Leader Brendan also wished everyone a happy break and he would see them all in September when they return.

The Cub Pack was then dismissed for the summer break. Next year promises to be even more action packed than the one just gone. Gearoid would like to thank the Parents for all their support and help over the past Cub Scout Year.

Scout Troop Meeting
Saturday night saw the Troop gather for the last Scout Meeting. It was after a week when the Patrols had been in the den during the week to go over their Patrol Gear for Annual Camp. Monday Night had Joe and the Eagle Patrol cleaning and doing their final checks, making sure everything was ready for Larch Hill. Thursday Night Aaron and Tom and the Tiger Patrol were busy washing and gathering their equipment in anticipation of the week in Dublin.

Patrol formation was called to start the meeting by saying the Scout Prayer. The Scout Troop was introduced to Scout Brendan Nagle. Brendan is a Senior Patrol Leader with Troop 1, Vinings in Georgia. Wearing his Class A Uniform Shirt of the BSA (Boy Scouts of America). Brendan was at the meeting to see how Scouts operate here.
The Patrols were given instructions for the meeting the Patrol Tents were to be pitched and all gear checked yet again. Gas cookers were checked to ensure they were working correctly. As always any problems with gear are better to happen at home than on Annual Camp, so we were lucky that it was in the field we broke a tent pole, right Joe!
With everything packed away again it was back into the Hall and into Patrol Corners where everyone listened to Brendan Nagle explain about Scouting in America and his impressions of the 4th Waterford. A round of applause was given to Brendan for his very informative and interesting talk.

Scout Leader Brendan the explained about the Permission to Camp form that each Scout Present was given, if this form is not returned Scouts cannot attend Camp. Parents are asked to read the form carefully and to fill in all details about their son, instead of leaving blanks please put in Unknown or N/A. this form need to back next Saturday Night. The Scouts were also given an information sheet to help with what to bring to Annual Camp and how to pack it. Gear should be packed in one gear bag or rucksack.
The meeting finished with everyone standing in for a picture with Brendan Nagle, after which the Scout Prayer was said and the Scout Troop was dismissed. Everyone was reminded that all Scouts are to wear their Full Uniform for Inspection. Personal gear is also to be brought down on Saturday night. Meeting Starts at Seven Thirty and the den will be open from seven for personal gear to be brought down. Any money still outstanding for Annual Camp 2007 must be paid on Saturday night.

Venture Scout Group Meeting
The Venture Scouts’ meeting was on Wednesday night this week to plan for an overnight on Friday night. Sandy started the meeting and the option of going to the Cunnigar for an overnight was ruled out, as the weather forecast was bad. A number of ideas were shared and it was decided to overnight in Mount Melleray Scout Centre. Everyone was to meet at the Centre for seven on Friday night and be collected from the Glen on Saturday before Lunch.

Those present for the Venture Scout meeting were Damien Doyle, James Wilkinson, Patrick Fennell, Marco Hanrahan, Cearbhall Turraoin, Jack Morrissey, Rhys Mitchel and Cormac O’Mahony. Leaders present were Sandy Griffin, Venture Scout Section Leader, Brian ‘Muller’ Mulvihill, Group Leader, Eamonn Terry, Scout Leader, David Hickey, Scout Leader, Kieran Harty, Scout Leader, Gearoid Fraher, Cub Scout Section Leader, and Brendan Kiersey, Scout Section Leader.

Annual Camp 2007, was discussed and the plan to sort out gear during the Scout Meeting on Saturday night. Gearoid went through outstanding balances for Annual Camp. Sandy spoke of a morning of Kayaking and Sailing that will be done during Camp.

A few of the Ventures were down on Saturday Night to go through their gear for Annual Camp, everything is in order. We just have to wait for the Bus next Sunday to put it to the test.

Venture Scout Overnight
Six venture Scouts and some Leaders headed to Mount Melleray Scout Centre for an Overnight Friday night. They spent some time in the Climbing Wall area as well as heading to the Glen for collection on Saturday Morning. All had a most enjoyable time. Who was the guilty party that kept everyone awake with their snoring? Ask the younger Leaders to find out, but would not like to embarrass them by naming them in the paper, well not this week anyway!
