Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Cal started this weeks meeting with the saying of the cubs scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid and Michael. With numbers slightly down on most weeks a quick relay game was played to get the blood pumping and this seemed to do the trick very nicely. Then Michael played a new version of N.S.E.W., it being north east, south east, north west and south west. Although explained to the cubs beforehand and also given a quick recap when it came down to playing the game a lot of the cubs seemed to get these new points of the compass wrong and Jordan Cliffe was victorious at the end. A game we may play a lot more of in the future. Then as part of their badge work the cubs were asked to draw a map from the den as far as Abbeyside Church. For their first effort some were pretty good while others it must be said could do better. We then played a new game introduced by Gearoid called the "egg " relay game which the cubs had to carry an egg on a desert spoon half way up the den and back down to hand it to a team-mate to do the same, the first team to finish being the winners. Cal's clan took the honours here.
It was then time to practice calling the emergency services again with Seanie once again being the casualty and Michael being the operator on the line, This time Aidan. Sean, Kevin and Jordan all did a good job and showed they new what to do if they had to make that phone call. Aaron then tested the cubs knowledge in preparation for the up coming county quiz on December 9th by asking them previously asked questions to which we got various answers. Gearoid then emphasised to all that only those who took it seriously would be allowed represent the 4th Waterford at the quiz. Everyone was then reminded about the Mass on Sunday morning and to be at the den in full uniform at 9a.m.Cal then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
For the meeting this week we had a change of venue, the Scout Troop paid a visit to the Sports Centre in Dungarvan. This was organised by the Court Of Honour, with Joe booking the time and date, the Aaron, Tom, Kevin and Tony organising things on the night. Things started with some warm ups, before moving on to some Basketball and Soccer skills. The Troop then divided into two teams to play a game of Soccer. Then before we finished up it was time for the Leaders against the Scouts Selection. This was a very enjoyable game with the Leaders winning by 4 to 0. Everyone was reminded of the cooking competition and the group mass.
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings will still be on a Saturday night from seven to nine. If you have any questions about Scouts before we return in September you can E-Mail us at scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get back in contact with you.
