Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Darragh began this weeks meeting with the saying of the cub scout prayer. Then Gearoid and Michael took up subs. First game of the night was one that we haven't played in a while, was "Gearoid says" which a lot of the cubs seemed to get tired very quickly from, due to lack of energy or lack of coca cola before hand, we're not sure which. Then Michael took charge of the "x" game, which as usual was both very popular and very competitive with both teams at times literally, and figuratively going for each others throats. The cubs then sat down and wrote out what they thought were appropriate prayers of the faithful for the 4th Waterford's annual mass for past and present members which is on in Abbeyside Church this Sunday at 9.30a.m.The prayers got some careful consideration before being put to paper. Then Seanie gave the cubs some sample questions that may or may not be asked at the Cub County Quiz in Ferrybank on Sunday December 9th.We will be doing more of the same in the coming weeks. The cubs were then given a notice about the mass on Sunday and told to meet at the den in full uniform. Darragh then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
The meeting started with Patrol Formation and the Scout Prayer being said, after which the Patrols got out the Patrol Equipment Boxes, which had not been seen since we returned from Annual Camp in Larch Hill. The equipment was taken out and checked, and given a quick wash in preparation for the Indoor Cooking Competition later this month.
It was then time for a bit of fun and some games, the Troop formed a line and number off then number off in two’s splitting into two teams for a quick relay game, but even after all this time some of the Scouts could not remember if they were numbered team one or team two, so we started again, this time making two Teams of fairly even numbers, after another relay game it was time for a game of ‘Number Snatch’ Joe’s Team won this easy enough even after the scores were adjusted for Tom’s team they could not win. A game of switch was next on the agenda and proved as always to be great fun.
Before the meeting finished some notices were gone over and discussed with those present, among those talked about was the Indoor Cooking Competition, Annual visit to the Sports Centre, and the Annual Unit Mass. The Court of Honour are to organise the activities for next weeks meeting in the sports centre which starts at half past five and will be over at half seven. All Scouts are to wear their Group Neckerchief.
The meeting finished with the Scout Prayer being said and everyone dismissed to go home. A Court Of Honour was held after the meeting where the up coming South Eastern Youth Forum, and Waterford Scout County PL/WL Training was talked about.
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings will still be on a Saturday night from seven to nine.
