Last Weeks Photo
Well did you all guess who was in the photo? The Annual Camp was Curragh Chase, Co. Limerick in the early 90’s, those in the Photo are Group Leader Brian ‘Muller’ Mulvihill, Brian Elstead and Brian O’Mahony. This was a Camp where a then PL who went on to become an ASL emptied a large amount of water from the roof of the marquee ………… need we say more JP.

Waterford Scout County AGM
On Monday Night last some of the Leaders headed to the WYTEC for the Waterford Scout County AGM.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Luke started this weeks meeting with the saying of the Cub Scout prayer. Then subs were taken up by Gearoid. With a smaller than usual turnout for this weeks meeting the clans were joined together for the first game of the night which was the card relay game. Confusion set in this week, as there were two suits on each table compared to the normal one set. This seemed to add to the fun as well once the cubs had figured this out. A game of volleyball was then played which as usual is always very competitive and as usual some dodgy refereeing decisions were made as well. A game of switch followed this with some very unusual choice of requests. It was then time to follow up on last weeks badge work and what to do if you had to phone for the emergency services with someone who was unconscious in the house. It was the turn of the assistant clan leaders this week, so Eoghan, Conor and Mathew made the calls with Seanie being the person who was unconscious. They all did very well giving the correct information. Well done lads. We then found out who was interested in going to Dunmore East the following Sunday for the County hike and had a good response. Luke then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.

New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.

Waterford Scout County Cub Scout Hike – Woodstown Beach
On Sunday morning last, 4th November, 2007, thirteen cubs accompanied by Brendan, Seanie, Gearoid and the parents who were so willing to get up very early, even though some had not been in bed that long (she knows who she is), left the den for Dunmore East for the county hike and a day full of fun and activity. Once there and rucksacks on our backs we headed up the hill and through the path to the beach that would be our base for the day. There the 4th Waterford were split into different groups so as to mingle with the other cubs and make new friends for the day as they went around and did the different bases which all of the leaders had organised. The 4th Waterford came together momentarily again at lunchtime and shared their own stories of the day so far, cubs and leaders alike. Then more of the same in the afternoon before finishing our bases at two thirty and the half hour hike back to the cars to be collected by parents and told stories of the day gone by on the journey home. Once again thanks to all the parents who provided transport and without whom the cubs could not have had such an enjoyable day.
Finally quote of the day goes to Conor Foley, "she fell on her stu-mach, but who kares anna-wa!”
Once again, a very big thanks to all the Parents, who turned up to provide transport for the Cubs to this event.

Scout Troop – News & Information
As usual time seems to be an issue with a few Scouts still arriving late for the meeting, outside of those doing swimming. The meeting was started with the saying of the Scout Prayer by a smaller than usual turn out. While roll call was done, The Patrols were given questions that Brendan had been sent a long time ago by BSA 1st Troop, via Denise Settle, this was all following the visit of Brendan Nagle to the Group during the summer. Hi to all at 1st Troop who keep up to date with our activities. A discussion followed on the various question and the answers given by the Patrols.
A practical exercise was then done on ‘route cards’ with everyone writing out the route they had taken to get to the Scout Den. Brendan then explained the need for a ‘Route Card’ on hikes.
A few games were played, with a relay and soccer. Badge work was talked about as well as how the Patrols got on bowling, Declan was fixing the score on the machine with his first bowl scoring 26.
The Indoor Cooking Competition was next covered with the Menu gone over and questions put about various parts of the menu.
Each Scout was given a notice about the Unit Mass.
The meeting finished with the Scout Prayer being said and everyone dismissed to go home.
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings will still be on a Saturday night from seven to nine. If you have any questions about Scouts before we return in September you can E-Mail us at scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get back in contact with you.
