Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting 14/02/08
Our meeting began this week with Larry saying the cub scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid before Michael,Cearbhaill and Seanie took charge of some of our regular games such as the corner game and NE,SE,NW and SW.These as usual were very competitive, proved a source of disappointment to the losers and a source of triumph to the winners. It was then time for everyone to concentrate their participation in the county event in April so we then practiced our singing as well as the timing of our joke telling. This improved as the meeting went on but we will see in weeks to come how everyone is doing and who exactly will be attending the event. This as usual will depend on the cubs behaviour at meetings and how much transport we have on the day. More on this in the weeks to come. Gearoid then told everyone that because of the lack of numbers at the meeting the naming of the new clan would be postponed until next weeks meeting. Larry then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
Waterford Scout County Fun Weekend ‘08
Everyone from around Waterford Scout County gathered at Mount Melleray Scout Centre for the 2008 Waterford Scout County Fun Weekend on Friday NIght at eight o'clock for4 an action packed weekend. The weekend began with everyone being allocated their bunks for the weekend, Abbeyside were bunked upstairs in Deise, there were ten members of the 4th present for the weekend, Joe, Conor, Malachy, Conor, James, Chris, Declan, Owen, Ben and Kevin. All were ready with their Beachwear outfits for the fancy dress Beach Party in the Half Acre on Friday night, with DJ Sid on the decks and David on the mic the evening was set. Rock the boat, conga line, Hoola Hoops, limbo dancing were some of the nights activities. After which it was time for supper followed by Lights Out and Bed. Although some people decided to stay up talking.
The day started at eight with breakfast before going to the first bases of the day, these bases covered a lot of beach and water type activities. with a break at one for a hot lunch. The scouts were broken into Groups for going round the bases. After everyone had eaten and washed up from the mornings fun a hike was organised to the Cross. All to soon it was time for dinner. There was a little free time before the Campfire was started with some beach boy tunes being recited, maybe not exactly as the beach boys would have done but good enough for a campfire. As the fire burned down it was back inside where DJ Sid was spining the disc's, some of which were a little unkown to the Scouts and even before the leaders era's. The long day and lack of sleep the previous night had started to tell as the Scouts started to head for bed. By lights out there was silence around the Centre.
A lie in til half past eight was afforded to everyone before breakfast was served. Fun Games were being played this morning, dodgeball, Sufer, zip-wire, assualt course, boulder wall, rounders provided much fun for everyone, all too soon the time was up and lunch was being served. everyone got stuck into the clean up before finally heading wearly for home after a very busy and fun filled weekend.
Questions To Be Answered
Will Abbeyside be doing some joint activities with Ferrybank Scouts?
Did one of the Leaders really text messages in the wee small hours on friday night and why?
Who upset the Leaders on Saturday and begged to be forgiven, soccer is a serious matter?
Who thought they were moving out of home not just going on a weekend away?
