Cub Scout Pack Overnight
On Friday 1st February, 2008, the Cub Scout Pack had an overnight in the Scout Den Abbeyside. There were nearly 30 Cubs for this the first overnight of the New Year. Everyone arrived at the den full of anticipation and excitement. Some of the cubs had enough gear with them to get them through a full weekend, blaming their parents when asked by the leaders as to why they had so much gear. Gearoid did a roll call to see who was present having assured some of the more nervous parents that everything would be o.k until their "little angels" were collected the following morning. We then played some of our favourite games to release some of the adrenalin which was inside all of the cubs. Experience seem to tell as Ruari led his clan to victory in the relay race game, the corner game and also crab soccer which needed to be decided on a penalty shoot-out over Patrick's clan. After all this activity we sat down to watch one of Brendan's favourite films, Shrek 3, which "most of the cubs enjoyed. While this was been watched, Brendan put his years of culinary expertise to good use cooking chips and sausages for the cubs which they all enjoyed and certain cubs even had "seconds".Once plates were washed clans were allocated corners of the den to sleep in and everyone settled down for the night. This eventually happened after a few warnings from Brendan and Gearoid and we did get a few hours sleep. The next morning Gearoid woke everyone up,the cubs got dressed and packed away their gear before Brendan and Gearoid gave them breakfast. Everyone then washed up and cleaned up the den before they were given a talk on their behaviour the previous night, especially after the lights were put out in the den and what way the leaders expected them to behave the next time. The cubs were also told what they could and couldn't bring the next time we would be having an overnight. Everyone was then collected and went home.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Night Scout Troop Meeting 02/02/08
At seven o'clock the meeting began with Patrol Formation for the saying of the Scout Prayer, attendance was done by Eammon and Gearoid, Annual Camp money along with Overdue Annual Regitration was also collected. The Patrols then went to their corners, the plan for tonight was to cook Pancakes and some accompanyments for them. The Patrols got their equipment boxes out of the store along with their gas cookers, while two from each Patrol went to the shop to get the required ingrediants, some got apples, oranges, chocolate, sugar, eggs and pancake mix. The smell of pancakes soon filled the Scout Den and as Michael made sure that the Pancakes were cooked, and tasted the various dishes served to go with them. All the Scouts present had a go at cooking their own Pancake, with a flair being shown how to flip a pancake. Some did it no problem Tony even managed to flip it all the way to the same side. Tidy up was done and everyone formed into their Patrols for the saying of the Scout Prayer to finish up the meeting. Next weeks meeting is Bowling in Clonea at two o'clock.

Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group Night Out 25/01/08
On Friday night at half past seven the Venture Group joined by a few of the Leaders gathered at Davit’s Restaurant. This was a special meal to say best wishes to Venture Scout Section Leader Sandy Griffin. With nearly all the Venture Group present, just Cearbhall was away in Prague. A beautiful meal was enjoyed by all present and the night was well organised by the lads. The Ventures gave Sandy a card and voucher to get something nice for her travels. Group Leader Brian ‘Muller’ will be taking over while Sandy is away.
Once again well done to the lads for a very enjoyable night, it was great to see everyone gather to say thanks to Sandy for all the hard work she has put in with the Venture Group over the last year since they were started up. We look forward to Sandy coming back from her travels and getting the Ventures ready for Annual Camp.
The next Venture Meeting is on Saturday Night, those who still have to give money towards Annual Camp or have yet to pay their Annual Registration.
You can E-Mail the Venture Group on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
