It is €40-00 per member, any cheques should be made payable to 4th Waterford Unit, Abbeyside Scout Group. Thank You. Those who have yet failed to pay will be receiving a letter by post informing them of their ineligibility to attend any activities organised by the 4th Waterford Unit, Abbeyside Scout Group until this fee is paid.

Attendance

If Cubs, Scouts or Ventures are unable to attend a Meeting, Activity or Hike they are asked to make contact with the Section Leader in advance and let them know. You can do this by text or phone. Section Leader for Cubs is Gearoid, Section Leader for Scouts is Brendan, Section Leader for Ventures is Brian. This will help with the smoother running of each section. All members are reminded that if three meetings are missed without notice being given to a Leader they are presumed to have finished.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information

Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting

Luke started our meeting this week with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. Michael and Cearbhall then took up subs before everyone was introduced to new member Eoghan. It was then straight down to business and practicing for the Waterford Scout County Cub Scout Variety Show, which is now only a matter of days away in Ferrybank on Sunday April 6th. We leave the den at 12.45p.m. sharp. Michael and Cearbhall took charge of the practice, which they spent most of the meeting on and it went very well. We then played the ‘Circle Game’ with the Cubs for the first time and this seemed to go down a treat. As with any other games it proved to be very competitive especially when it's an elimination game. The last man standing here was Isaac. Gearoid then named the new Clans, which had been decided on including a new ‘Link Clan’ for those Cubs who will be progressing to the Scout Section from September onwards with some new Clan Leaders and Assistant Clan Leaders named on the night to the extreme delight of certain Cubs. Gearoid then gave everyone a notice detailing the change in the time of the meeting on Thursday night, which now ends at 9p.m instead of 8.45p.m. Final prayer was said and everyone was dismissed.

Up Coming Events

The Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are planned to run until Nine O'Clock.

Scout Troop – News & Information

Saturday Night Meeting

The meeting started as usual with fall in and saying of the Scout Prayer before everyone got down to the business of sorting out gear for the Waterford Scout County Scout Challenge Weekend, which is on next month. This year the Scout Challenge Weekend is a Patrol of twelve Scouts who on the Saturday will be broken into a Mountain Patrol and a Base Camp Patrol. The ‘Mountain Patrol’ will have four Scouts and will be on the Comeragh Mountains in the Mahon Falls area. The ‘Base Camp Patrol’ will have eight Scouts and shall camp in the Stradbally area of the County. All the Scouts are looking forward to the weekend.

Gear was sorted through and tents quickly checked but all will need to be pitched to ensure all are as they should be. The equipment list for a weekend camp such as this is fairly long and would include Patrol Sleeping Tent, Patrol Store Tent, Hike Tent, Dining Shelter to start with then all the cooking equipment, pots, pans, cooker, utensils, basins, cool box the list goes on. The Scouts and Leaders all worked very hard to get the Scout Den back in order before nine o’clock.

Money for Annual Camp was also collected during the Scout Meeting, at this stage everyone going to Spain should have returned their passport details and have paid at least €300.00 into their Annual Camp Account. The Scout were reminded of the ‘Bag Pack’ this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday in ‘Garvey’s’ Super Valu. There are four time slots Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. Everyone is to wear Full Uniform. A share of the funds collected will be given for each time slot attended by the Scout, Venture, Leader or Parent. Any questions you can contact Brendan.

The meeting ended with the saying of the Scout Prayer.

New Members

New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.

Venture Scout Group – Information

Venture Scout Group

Those who still have to give money towards Annual Camp or have yet to pay their Annual Registration need to do so before the next meeting.

Venture Scout Group Meeting Saturday March 29/08

The scheduled forth-nightly meeting of the ventures took place on Saturday last at the usual time of eight o clock. The meeting began with Cormac and Cearbhall speaking of their experiences so far of the Gaisce (Presidents Award) Award they are undertaking right now. The time and effort being put into this by the lads has to be admired and they will no doubt succeed in achieving their goal because of their dedication. Good luck to both.

Next on the agenda was the overnight to our campsite, Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin. This will happen on Friday the 11th of April when all are expected to be in the glen by 9 p.m. The overnight will finish the following day when all concerned can be collected from midday. Items to be brought include the usual camp gear i.e. rainwear, hiking boots, knives, forks, good sleeping bag, blanket, and camp bed if you don’t like sleeping on the floor!

Annual camp was the final item to be discussed. It was explained that a bag pack will be undertaken by those going on annual camp to Spain, in which everyone involved can use the event to lower the cost to themselves of the actual price of the camp. The two day bag pack will take place at Garveys Super Valu on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of April. All those who take part will get a share of the money raised from the event. If a scout/venture cannot attend some or all of the fundraising event, a parent can take their place and so avail of the share option.

While on the subject of annual camp it was explained that last Saturday the 29th was the latest date for all going on camp to ensure they had paid at least €300 into their camp account in order that flights etc may be booked and also passport details were to be given to scout leader Brendan. As some of those who indicated they would be going on camp have failed to do as requested their place with the group is in jeopardy if not at this stage gone altogether. They are advised to speak with Brendan urgently if they are to possibly salvage their place on annual camp 2008.

You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.

Annual Camp 2008

The next instalment for Annual Camp was due on the 29th March of €200.00, this will be nearly half the cost paid. A parents meeting will be held shortly there after to update everyone and answer any further questions or issues. If there are any items that cannot wait until then parents can contact Brendan.

All those who are going on Annual Camp to Spain need to have a Valid Passport. Everyone should have returned their forms with the details from their Passport for booking the flights, because of Spanish Government Policy we will need the Passport Number as we get closer to Annual Camp. As usual there are still some people to return these forms. These are delaying the booking of flights for the others and forms must be returned fully completed to Brendan urgently flights must be booked soon to avoid the price going up further.

All those going on Annual Camp must have a Full and Correct Scout Uniform, which should include a spare Abbeyside Neckerchief.

Full Uniform

All Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Leaders that are in the Group longer than six weeks should have their Full Uniform. A Full Uniform is Black Polished Shoes/Boots, Navy/Black Socks, Uniform Trousers, Uniform Belt, Uniform Jumper (Cubs), Uniform Shirt (Scouts), Group Neckerchief, Woggle (Plus Spare), Lanyard (Scouts), Whistle (Scouts), Badges, Group Cap, Uniform Jacket (Scouts).

Any Scout or Cub in the Unit longer than six weeks should have this Uniform. Scouting Ireland is a Uniformed Organisation.
