Calendar Of Events
We have put our Activities onto an on-line Calendar, you can see these on the Blog Spot or the Abbeyside Scout Group site.
Attendance
If Cubs, Scouts or Ventures are unable to attend a Meeting, Activity or Hike they are asked to make contact with the Section Leader in advance and let them know. You can do this by text or phone. Section Leader for Cubs is Gearoid, Section Leader for Scouts is Brendan, Section Leader for Ventures is Sandy. This will help with the smoother running of each section. All members are reminded that if three meetings are missed without notice being given to a Leader they are presumed to have finished.
Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting started this week with Meldan saying the cub scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Brendan followed by the naming of the new clans for those who were absent the previous week. It was then out into the field to release some energy and avail of the sunshine of which we hope to get plenty of this year. We played a few relay races which as always each clan had to finish at alert. The first couple, referees Brendan and Michael were not clear on as to might have won,but the clan who finished last were easy to pick out, this being the newly formed clan containing all the experienced cubs, call the link badge clan. They may fight back this week. It was then into the den for final practice for Sunday's county variety show. Here leaders Michael and Cearbhall put the cubs through their final paces for their singing while Gearoid gave each of the cubs their own doctor doctor joke to tell on the day as well as pick Darragh McGrath out as the doctor for all 23 joke that the 4th would amuse the audience with. Once practice had finished Gearoid told everyone that next weeks meeting would be a mufti meeting. Meldan then said the prayer and everyone was dismissed.
VARIETY SHOW 06/04/'08
Having assembled at the den at 12.45p.m we all headed for Ferrybank for the cub county variety show. Everybody was full of anticipation and a little nervous, leaders included as to see would the fruits of our labours over the last number of weeks pay us any dividends. Once we arrived at our destination it was revealed to Gearoid that out of the seven acts entered, Abbeyside would be on stage second last. This didn't help with any nerves that the lads may have had but to their credit they sat down and watched the acts before them and very sportingly applauded each one. We did have time for one last practice before we were called and once on stage the cubs gave it their all and showed no signs of nerves whatsoever and did the 4th Waterford extremely proud. Unfortunately it wasn't to be our day,but a good learning experience for all concerned. Maybe next year. All groups were presented with a certificate for participating and section leader Gearoid and clan leader Darragh accepted this on behalf of Abbeyside. Everyone then left looking forward to the next county event and seeing some familiar faces. Once again a big thank you to all the parents who provided transport for the cubs and without whom the day would not have been possible.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Night Meeting
This weeks meeting was again a non uniform one and started as usual with fall in and saying of the Scout Prayer before everyone sat down to about the menu for the Waterford Scout County Scout Challenge Weekend, which is on the weekend of April 18th to 20th. This year the Scout Challenge Weekend is a Patrol of twelve Scouts who on the Saturday will be broken into a Mountain Patrol and a Base Camp Patrol. The ‘Mountain Patrol’ will have four Scouts and will be on the Comeragh Mountains in the Mahon Falls area. The ‘Base Camp Patrol’ will have eight Scouts and shall camp in the Stradbally area of the County. All the Scouts are looking forward to the weekend.
The Scouts went out into the field to make the most of the fine weather where Michael organised a game of ‘Rounders’. The Scouts really enjoyed this game before coming back into the Scout Den. Here the route of the ‘Mountain Patrol’ was talked about. A computer print out of the route showed the height climb as a graph. With a little bit of light still available it was once again out to the field for a quick game of soccer. Back in the den final notices were gone over with every one being reminded that next weeks meeting will start at the much earlier time of six o’clock and will run until nine, we will be putting up all the tents that will be used over the Waterford Scout County Challenge Weekend. We will also be revising, I say that hopefully some pioneering knots and some of the gadgets that we will be building on the County Challenge.
The meeting ended with the saying of the Scout Prayer.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group
No Venture Scout meeting was held last Saturday night as none was scheduled, although quite a few of the Ventures did in fact put in an appearance at the den. The reason for this was that all those going on Annual Camp to Spain had to meet the deadline of Saturday night to confirm their attendance or loose their place. Seven out of the Group of nine have now confirmed their places and like the scouts are looking forward immensely to what promises to be another fantastic adventure in Europe with the troop!
Attention
The next scheduled meeting of the Venture Group is this coming Friday (11TH April) night from nine o clock in Glenshelane. This will be an overnight with all involved staying in the cabin. All concerned may then be collected from midday on Saturday.
You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
