Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting this week started with Daniel saying the Cub Scout prayer. Brendan then took up subs and Gearoid then gave a talk to the Cubs about some of the Cubs behaviour in Mount Melleray the previous Friday night. A game of dodge ball then followed which was organised by Seanie. Brendan then did the first part of the First Aid section of the bronze arrow badge with the cubs showing them everything from the various sizes that a first aid box comes in to it's different contents and what they are used for. Part two which will be covered this week is the more practical side of first aid. Some relay games were then played before some more badge work was done in the form of the national flags of the members of the European Community. This was covered by Cearbhall and will also be finished off over the next two weeks. A final relay game was played before Gearoid handed out a notice to everyone about the next activity on Sunday 18th. Anyone with any questions can contact Gearoid on the usual phone number. Daniel then said the final prayer before everyone was dismissed. Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are to run from Seven Fifteen until Nine O'Clock.
Parents are asked to ensure their son’s are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.
If there are any questions about the Activities or the Abbeyside Cub Scout Pack in general then you can contact Gearoid Fraher, Cub Scout Pack Section Leader on 087-2034172 or any of the other Abbeyside Leaders.
If a Cub is unable to attend any Activity, Event or Meeting, you are asked to please lets us know in advance, this can be done by text or phone on the above number.

If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Night Meeting
The Scout meeting started with the saying of the Scout Prayer followed by subs taken by Gearoid. Anyone who had the next instalment of Annual Camp money then paid it, as it was due at this meeting. The majority of the meeting was then spent checking some of the ridge tents for poles, pegs and tares etc as they will be needed at the end of this month in Glenshelane and also in June in Mount Melleray for the Waterford Scout County Cub Camp Weekend. Once this was done a game of soccer was played with Claire in goal for Joe's team and Owen in goal for Aaron's team. This proved to be a very heated game at times with a certain Leader forgetting she was a goalie at times and thinking she was the referee. The game finished in a draw with Joe just coming out of the sin-bin before the final whistle. "Unfortunate timing!" Gearoid then gave everyone present a notice about this Sunday's hike and informed them that there would be no meeting on Saturday night. The final prayer was said and everyone went home.
All Scouts, Ventures and Leaders are reminded that a further €100.00 is due next on Saturday 10th of May, giving everyone a balance paid into their camp fund of at least €400.00. The next €100.00 will then be due at the end of May bringing everyone’s total to at least €500.00. Everyone was also reminded to get their ‘European Health Card’ issued or renewed. A parents meeting will be held in the coming weeks.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.

Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group Meeting 10th May
The scheduled fortnightly meeting of the Venture section took place last Saturday at eight and quite a bit of work/planning got done! Leaders Sandy and Brian were present along with a good turn out of Ventures. Items which were discussed, included Annual Camp and Camp Fee including Camp Programme and E-111 or European Health Card. Also the need for Full Uniform, weekend camp in Tramore, camp in Glenshellane and catering crew were on the agenda. A programme for the next fort nightly meeting of the section to be held on the twentyfourth of this month was also drawn up. For this meeting it was decided to meet at seven o’clock in Clonea hotel where the group will first of all go swimming followed by bowling. This meeting will finish at the normal time of nine o’clock! It is hoped, by all that with the fine (hopefully) summer evenings and months ahead, that the section will be more outdoor orientated.
Reminder
Members of the Venture section who are going on annual camp are reminded to take stock of their uniform as along with everybody else attending annual camp, full and correct uniform is a must. Remember that we are not only going to be representatives of the 4th Waterford “Abbeyside” scout troop but of Scouting Ireland in general and as such we are keen to be seen and remembered for all good reasons including how we turn out!
You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
Full Uniform
A Full Uniform is Black Polished Shoes/Boots, Navy/Black Socks, Uniform Trousers, Uniform Belt, Uniform Jumper (Cubs), Uniform Shirt (Scouts), Group Neckerchief (Plus Spare), Woggle (Plus Spare), Lanyard (Scouts), Whistle (Scouts), Badges, Group Cap, Uniform Jacket (Scouts). Scouts have been advised if buying hiking boots then they should maybe try and get black ones that way they can be used as part of their uniform and save on getting shoes.
Any Venture, Scout or Cub in the Unit longer than six weeks should have this Uniform. Scouting Ireland is a Uniformed Organisation. The Scout and Cub Scout Uniforms are available from the Outdoor Adventure Store, Mc Curtain Street, Cork. Just ask the Leaders and they will help you out. If there is anyone who has been in the Cubs or Scouts and wishes to pass on their Uniform in part or full contact one of the Leaders. Thank You.
