On Sunday 30th November 2008 in the Scout Den Abbeyside the Patrols gathered at one o’clock for the Annual Indoor Cooking Competition. We had many visitors during the afternoon all of whom passed comments on how much effort each Patrol had put into the event with the fantastic table displays and great tasting Main Courses. To Assistant Cub Leader Mandy Roberts, Cub Leader and Assistant Scout Leader Gearoid Fraher, Assistant Scout Leader Michael Organ, Senior Patrol Leader Joe Conway for helping with the Marking and Food Tasting. Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Monday Night Cub Section Meeting
The next event coming up for the Cub Section is the County Quiz which will be held in the Friary College on Dec 7th. We will be making teams and practicing for the quiz during our next few meetings.
Parents and Cubs are to note the new meeting time for Monday night meetings. The meeting will start at the usual time of 7pm but will now finish at 8.15pm. Please attend meetings on time. Cubs are also reminded that they must have Full Correct Uniform for upcoming events. Uniforms must be purchased from the Outdoor Adventure Store (Scout Shop) in Cork, they cannot be ordered from the Leaders.
Thursday Night Cub Section Meeting
This weeks meeting began with Owen saying the cubs scout prayer followed by subs being taken up by section leader Gearoid. Sean and Jordan Corby then did their book reader badge and answered some questions from the cub pack on the books they had studied to attain the badge which the boys had no problem with. A game of N.S.E.W was then played to release some of the energy that the cubs were itching to get rid of and this duly did the trick thanks to S.P.L Joe. This weeks set of questions as part of the packs preparations for the county quiz were then asked by assistant leader Mandy. This weeks result was a much tighter affair between last weeks winners clan Diarmuid and also clan Round Tower. It took four tie-break questions to decide the winners with clan Round Tower taking the victory this week and the small prizes. Who will win the final practice this week only time will tell! The ladder game was then played with the two teams being called "Dragons" and "Knights" with the "Dragons" coming out victorious in the end. Gearoid then gave out the "Twelve Days of Christmas" tickets to the cubs and explained that each cub has to return all monies and stubs or unsold tickets by the cub quiz. Owen then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Scout Troop Meeting
The Scout Troop were back in the Scout Den on Saturday Night for the regular meeting. Starting as always at seven, and as of recent times the late comers arrived after the Scout Prayer had been said, once again Brendan spoke to them about time keeping and not being fair on those who travel much further and arrive on time, those concerned have assured the rest of the Scout Troop they will be on time in the future. At the Patrol Corners the Scouts went over the final ideas for the following days Indoor Cooking Competition. While attendance was done by Scout Section Leader Brendan as Leaders Gearoid and Michael collected Annual Registration. The Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders held a Court Of Honour with Scout Section Leader Brendan and Leader Eamonn while the rest of the Scout Troop enjoyed some fun time. At the Court Of Honour the PL’s went over their Menu plans for the Indoor Cooking Competition. The Court Of Honour was joined by Group Leader Brian as the topic of a weekend away towards the end of January was talked about and plans for transport, accommodation, activities and most important a venue. More details will follow as the plans fall into place and bookings are verified. Worth the wait, as it will be a first for all the Scouts and some of the Leaders too. Back in the Scout Den and the PL’s got the Patrols into action by getting the Patrol Boxes out of the Store and organising their areas for the following days Annual Indoor Cooking Competition. The Scouts were then given a Book of Tickets for the Scout Twelve Days Of Christmas Draw. The meeting ended with all present being reminded that marks would be lost for not wearing their neckerchief or for wearing their Full Uniform for the Annual Indoor Cooking Competition. The meeting ended with the saying of the Scout Prayer. Next week’s meeting is Full Uniform.
