Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting began this week with Matthew saying the cub scout prayer followed by subs being taken up by Aaron. It was then straight out into the field to be given a lesson by group chairman Mr. Jimmy Shine on how to plant seeds and also how to transfer young plants that section leader Gearoid had bought from the small pots they came in, into a bigger pot with some compost. Once Jimmy had shown the cubs how to do this they all had to do it individually and were then told they had to bring the plant home and bring it back in five weeks time so as the leaders could see how the plant was progressing. While the cubs were putting their plants into the pots the other cubs played games under the supervision of leader Eamonn. We then went inside where Aaron and Eamonn gave a basic demonstration to everyone on how to make a magnetic compass using a needle, some cork and a magnet. This proved very interesting to the cubs. Gearoid and Brendan then gave final details to everyone about the overnight in Melleray. Matthew said the prayer and everyone was dismissed.
OVERNIGHT Mount Melleray Scout Centre
Everybody arrived at Mt. Melleray Scout centre on Friday evening last very excited. Once parents had said goodbye we all put our bags inside and headed to the half-acre where Gearoid did a roll call. Clan by Clan, and everyone was then shown, by Brendan and the older scouts where they would be sleeping. While this was happing Gearoid organised a couple of games of snatch the bacon and dodge ball in the half-acre. Then everyone was told to get their eating gear and were shown where they would be having supper and breakfast the following morning. A small bit of T.V. watched before everyone was the called for supper of sausages, bread roll and soup. We then cleaned up and headed to our rooms to get our coats, and flash lamps. Once at Grotto which everyone enjoyed. When we arrived back at the centre everyone got ready for bed and settled down relatively quickly. The following morning Gearoid got everyone up for breakfast at eight o’clock. After their breakfast each Clan cleaned their own eating area and area of the bedroom before giving themselves a very quick wash and brush of the teeth. The Cubs then finished off packing their personal Gear with the help of the Scouts. There was time to take a Group Photo and everyone went up to the half acre where a quick kick around was had. The Cub Scout Prayer was said by everyone to finish off the activity before being collected by their parents and heading home somewhat tired than what they were when they arrived.
Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are to run from Seven Fifteen until Nine O'Clock. Parents are asked to ensure their son’s are on time as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.
If there are any questions about the Activities or the Abbeyside Cub Scout Pack in general then you can contact Gearoid Fraher, Cub Scout Pack Section Leader on 087-2034172 or any of the other Abbeyside Leaders.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Friday Night Overnight
This week the Scouts were on Catering Crew in Mount Melleray Scout Centre and also giving a helping hand with the thirty Cubs who were on an overnight in Mount Melleray Scout Centre from Abbeyside. The Scouts arrived in Mount Melleray for nine o’clock and helped organise where the Cubs would be sleeping. They organised the Cub Pack into their Clans with two of the Clans along with the Link Badge in one of the rooms and the other three Clans in the next room. While Patrol Leader Aaron and Assistant Patrol Leader Kevin helped Leader Brendan bunk down the Cubs in order of Clans. Gearoid, Claire, Sandy and Eamonn organised games in the ‘Half Acre’ while Geoff and Muller were in the kitchen getting things ready for supper. The Catering Crew would not be under too much pressure this particular weekend as the numbers in house would be smaller than other weekends, there would be only thirty compared with the two hundred the last weekend Abbeyside were on Crew. Supper was then served and eaten before the Hi-Vis were handed out for a night hike. This was a short walk down to the Grotto and back. It was then time for bed and soon after lights out.
Morning quickly came and after breakfast and a quick wash the gear was packed away and the Scouts went to use the ‘Rock Wall’ while waiting to be collected. Aaron and Kevin stayed on to help out with Lunch and Dinner. The next Scout Meeting is on May 10th 2008 at seven o’clock and is Full Uniform, no white runners, no white socks.
All Scouts, Ventures and Leaders are reminded that a further €100.00 is due next on Saturday 10th of May, giving everyone a balance paid into their camp fund of at least €400.00. The next €100.00 will then be due at the end of May bringing everyone’s total to at least €500.00. Everyone was also reminded to get their ‘European Health Card’ issued or renewed. A parents meeting will be held in the coming weeks.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group
Leaders Sandy and Muller will be present on Saturday night 10th May at eight o’clock for the normal forth-nightly meeting. By the time this meeting comes round it will have been a full month since the section last met. Time is now getting scarce for programme events apart form Annual Camp to Spain and upcoming normal annual events for example the troop flag day the availability of time in which to take part in events is going to get very limited. Bearing this in mind it is important that attendance is good for this meeting Saturday night. Everyone going on annual camp is once again reminded of the need to be conscious of deadlines with regard to making payments towards camp cost! Please also take note of the need to make sure that you have correct uniform. Scout leader Brendan is working at the moment on producing a new style uniform hat for those going on camp. This along with the standard camp neckerchief means everyone will be making quite an impact in the fashion stakes on the streets of Barcelona!
Sandy and Muller report that as the representatives of the venture section on the catering crew last weekend, the Tipperary county scout leaders were wined and dined to the normal high standard of the 4th Waterford catering crew. The next adventure in catering will be towards the end of June when the crew will be looking after the culinary needs of the Waterford county cubs. All two hundred of them!
Reminder
Members of the Venture section who are going on annual camp are reminded to take stock of their uniform as along with everybody else attending annual camp, full and correct uniform is a must. Remember that we are not only going to be representatives of the 4th Waterford “Abbeyside” scout troop but of Scouting Ireland in general and as such we are keen to be seen and remembered for all good reasons including how we turn out!
You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
Full Uniform
A Full Uniform is Black Polished Shoes/Boots, Navy/Black Socks, Uniform Trousers, Uniform Belt, Uniform Jumper (Cubs), Uniform Shirt (Scouts), Group Neckerchief (Plus Spare), Woggle (Plus Spare), Lanyard (Scouts), Whistle (Scouts), Badges, Group Cap, Uniform Jacket (Scouts). Scouts have been advised if buying hiking boots then they should maybe try and get black ones that way they can be used as part of their uniform and save on getting shoes.
Any Venture, Scout or Cub in the Unit longer than six weeks should have this Uniform. Scouting Ireland is a Uniformed Organisation. The Scout and Cub Scout Uniforms are available from the Outdoor Adventure Store, Mc Curtain Street, Cork. Just ask the Leaders and they will help you out. If there is anyone who has been in the Cubs or Scouts and wishes to pass on their Uniform in part or full contact one of the Leaders. Thank You.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting this week started this week with Jamie saying the Cub Scout Prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid and Cearbhall. It was then time to line up for a photo as the 4th was presented with their prize from the St. Patrick's Day Parade, for ‘Best Youth Group’ by Mr. Jim Veale. Gearoid accepted this on behalf of the 4th Waterford. Seanie then took charge of the corner game, which as always provided great excitement, fun and competition between the Clans. Gearoid and Eamonn then gave a talk on the different aspects of Cub safety ranging from the non consumption of alcohol, prescribed medicines, being careful near water, machinery, crossing the road, food allergies and bee stings etc. This is part of their Bronze Arrow Badge. Aaron and Seanie then played a game of dodge ball with the Cubs, which is our most popular game as, it's requested by the Cubs once they enter the Scout Den every week. As usual it went down a treat and filled the Scout Den with noise while in progress. It was then time for some more Badge Work as Gearoid handed out sheets with the National Anthem so as we could practice that. Each Clan was given a chance to give their own rendition before we all got together as a Group and with the help of the Leaders it all came together nicely in the end. We then had it translated for us by Seanie so as everyone knew what it meant. Rumour has it that it sounded so good it may even be considered for next years Waterford Scout County Cub Scout Variety Show. This too is also part of the Cubs Bronze Arrow Badge. Gearoid then handed out a notice to all present about the overnight in Mount Melleray Scout Centre next Friday night. If anyone has any questions they can contact Gearoid on the usual phone number (see below). Jamie then said the final prayer and everyone being dismissed.

So a big well done to all those who took the time out to take part, to the Cubs, Scouts and Leaders. Scouting in Ireland is one hundred years this year. We walked behind the De La Salle Scout Pipe Band which is the oldest Scout Pipe Band in Ireland. De La Salle Scout Pipe Band took part in the ‘Sun Rise’ ceremony as part of the Jamboree 2007 to Celebrate one years of Scouting Worldwide. Abbeyside is the Oldest Scout Troop in the County Area of Waterford with 3rd Waterford, De La Salle being the oldest in Waterford Scout County both being founded by Fr Crotty, and both carrying on the proud tradition of Scouting.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
There was no Cub Pack Meeting this past week but we are back in the Scout Den again on this Thursday 27th March at the usual time of 7.15pm to 8.45pm and is Full Uniform.
Good Friday Day Out
Everyone arrived at Melleray scout centre last friday full of anticipation of the day ahead. As soon as the roll had been taken, Gearoid and Brendan put everyone into their respespective groups for the day and then assigned at least one leader to each group. The aim of the day was to have a lot of fun and also to familiarise the cubs with the orienteering course in Melleray as well as help them with their map reading skills. We had six groups in all take to the course led by some of the experienced scouts who were on hand to help out and also a group led by one of the cub leaders Seanie Kiely. Most people seemed to take to the course very well with no problems and got back in the time allowed with most of the marks found. However one team seemed to find the course a bit more difficult than the others and despite some direction from the two PLs he met on the course and also a phone call when he got to the monastery Seanie's team "eventually" made it back. A great time was had by all. We then had our lunch and moved down the road to the field near the church car park where we celebrated Cian's and Aidan Rousseau's birthdays with a lovely cake made by Cian's mother Niamh. We then played some relay races before everyone was presented with an Easter egg and told about the date of the next meeting. A photo was then taken before everyone left for home after a most enjoyable day.

Saturday Night Meeting
There was no Scout Troop Meeting due to the bank holiday weekend, see you all on Saturday 29th this will be a non uniform meeting.
Good Friday Activity
The Scouts were in Mount Melleray to give a hand with the Cub Pack, who were going orienteering. Everyone started to gather outside the main Entrance to the Scout Centre from half ten. Awaiting the arrival of the Leaders who had stopped by the Scout Den to pick up some bits, that’s their story. The younger members of the Troop were paired off and the Patrols Leaders were on their own to help the Cubs find the Markers on the Orienteering Course. Each group was given a map of the course and were shown the main features of the main as it related to the landscape around us. Cub Leader Seanie was all ready to go and assured everyone he knew exactly what he was doing. The groups were left off at timed intervals and told to start back at half past one towards the start point. Malachy and Conor’s Group were first back missing three points, two of which we discovered later had been removed giving them nine out of ten. Joe’s Group were back with all ten of the markers that were on the course. Well done to Conor and Tony, Dylan and Owen, and Aaron who all did very well with their Groups also, some of the Cubs showed great awareness of their position in relation to the map. Lunch was eaten by everyone while they waited for Seanie to arrive back, he asked everyone he met where the markers were to no avail, he did find some with the help from the Scouts he met on the way around, some say he did the course twice as he was first off and last back. Everyone moved into the camping field and the shelter where the Cub Pack sang ‘Irelands Call’ that they have prepared for the County Variety show next month in Ferrybank. Everybody the sung ‘Happy Birthday’ as a birthday cake was produced by Gearoid for two of the Cubs who’s birthday it was, Cian and Aidan, Cian’s Mum had made the cake for the occasion, well done Niamh. A few quick relay games were then played before Gearoid and Brian then presented the two Cubs with Easter Eggs. As they used to say on the ‘Late Late Show’ there was one for everyone in the audience, much to the delight of all the Cubs and Scouts present. There was just time for a quick photo before everyone headed home.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Richard began our meeting this week with the saying of the cub scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid before he explained about the new centenary badge for those who were absent last week and what was involved to attain the second part of the badge. A game of dodge ball was then played and refereed by leaders Michael,Cearbhall and Seanie who now almost looks the part in his new uniform, ( only the badges to go Seanie!). Team Ruari were the winners of the game of dodge ball. It was then down to the more serious matter of practicing for the county variety show in Ferrybank on April 6th. With only one more meeting left Gearoid told everyone that only those taking it seriously would be travelling as a lot of work has to be put in. An updated notice was then handed out to all cubs present about upcoming events detailing times, locations and dates etc. Anyone with any questions can contact Gearoid. Venture Scout Group
Those who still have to give money towards Annual Camp or have yet to pay their Annual Registration need to do so at this weeks meeting.
Venture Scout Group Meeting Saturday
The Venture Scouts held a short meeting on Saturday last at eight o clock to discuss some future programming events! Despite the small attendance quite a bit of work was done. Venture – Patrick had a huge dilemma to deal with, “financially speaking” due to it being Saint Patrick’s weekend, however with encouragement from all sides he resolved his problem! One of the main items on the agenda from last week was the urgency of everyone going on camp to have their passport details handed in so that flights to Spain can be booked. Ventures Cathyl and Rhyss have failed to do this and have now put their places and travel arrangements at risk. Everyone was also reminded that each individual going on Annual Camp must have at least €300 paid into their account by the end of this month! In order to help keep down the cost of camp for each individual a bag pack has been organised for the 4th and 5th of April in Garveys Super Valu. As regards annual registration, Marco, Jack, Cearbhaill, Rhyss and Damien have so far failed to hand in their annual dues and as such will be unable to take part in any activities until they become fully paid up members! This registration has been due since the beginning of this calendar year.
The meeting decided to provisionally book the Glen cabin for the 11th of April for an overnight however no decision was made as regards a trip to Cork due to the small attendance. These matters and others will be on the agenda for discussion at the next Venture meeting to be held on Saturday 5th of April at eight o’ clock in the den.
You can get in contact with the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
Annual Camp 2008
The next instalment due for Annual Camp will be due on the 29th March of €200.00, this will be nearly half the cost paid. A parents meeting will be held shortly there after to update everyone and answer any further questions or issues. If there are any items that cannot wait until then parents can contact Brendan.
All those who are going on Annual Camp to Spain need to have a Valid Passport. Everyone should have returned their forms with the details from their Passport for booking the flights, because of Spanish Government Policy we will need the Passport Number as we get closer to Annual Camp. As usual there are still some people to return these forms. These are delaying the booking of flights for the others and forms must be returned fully completed by Easter Weekend to Brendan.
All those going on Annual Camp must have a Full and Correct Scout Uniform, which should include a spare Abbeyside Group Neckerchief.
Mount Melleray Catering Crew
Abbeyside were due to be on catering crew next on the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend. As of yet there are no Groups booked in.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Ryan began our meeting this week with the saying of the cub scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid before Cearbhall and Gearoid put the cubs through an extensive drill programme which needed to be done judging by the way that the cubs performed their drill over the previous weeks and also because of the way certain cubs are behaving recently. Once this was finished it was time to play the corner game which is always popular and very competitive. At the end of this game due to popular demand a game of dodge ball was played. This is fast becoming the number one game for the cubs as it's a great source of enjoyment and they get to throw the balls at each other, and even at the referees. The balls for this game of course although the property of the cub pack had to be kept in the "scout leaders office!" Gearoid then gave out a notice to the cubs about the details of the St. Patrick's Day parade, it also said there would be no meeting on Thurs 20th and gave details of the activity in Melleray on Friday 21st,(Good Friday).Ryan then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have a Parent/Guardian call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 10½ /11 years. Their meeting night will be on a Thursday night from seven fifteen to eight forty five. If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
The meeting began as usual with the Scout forming into their Patrols for the saying of the Scout Prayer. The Patrols then sat at their Patrol Corners where they revised the history of Scouting along with how Scouting is Structured at local level, county, province, national and worldwide. Attendance was done by Gearoid who also collected money for Annual Camp.
Everyone going to Annual Camp ’08 must have a total of €300.00 paid towards the Camp by Saturday 29th March ’08. Also a form was handed out on Saturday Night to everyone going on Camp for their Passport details that must be back to Brendan by Thursday, this is for the booking of flights.
The first game of the night was a game of ‘Dodge Ball’, eventually we got the Troop to number off in two’s, after this the rules were explained it was down to a few games. Claire joined in as one team was short one player. This game as always proves to be great fun.
The Scouts were then shown and given the New Badge to Celebrate One Hundred Years of Scouting in Ireland. This Badge comes in two parts with Brendan giving the Scouts the first part, the second part must be earned. The idea is that the Scouts would do One Hundred of something, Brendan asked the Scouts for ideas and they are to get back to him.
Group Chairman Jimmy Shine then joined the meeting and Group Leader Brian Mulvihill also paid a visit on his way to the Venture Scout Meeting.
A game of ‘Switch’ was played, which was run by Michael. Everyone got really into this game with some Scouts getting caught out a few times.
The Scouts then returned to their Patrol Corners where the Waterford Scout County Challenge was discussed. All who attended this weekend last year enjoyed it, well apart from the large amount of walking done between some of the bases. But in general it was a most pleasant weekend. This year it is a Team of 12 Scouts that will act as a Patrol. This will then be broken into two with four Scouts going onto the mountains around the Mahon Falls area and the other eight Scouts staying at base Camp in Stradbally. This is a big change on last year as all the Patrol were on the Mountain. At the Base Camp the Patrol will be doing some Campcraft, Bases, Cooking, and a Campfire. The Scouts on the Mountain will be covering Map and Compass, Route Cards, along with other Mountain Craft Elements, along with a Campfire. The Patrols were asked to go through a rough menu of food they would need over the weekend at Base Camp and on the Mountain. Those interested in going on the weekend will have a meeting over the Easter Break, anyone who is interested should contact Brendan to let him know.
Michael then organised a game of ‘Squares’ which as usual causes uproar about who’s square the ball finishes in when the whistle was blown. Michael kept things in order. One team was knocked out of the game because a mobile phone was being used, his team mates were not happy. All to soon nine o’clock was approaching and the end of the meeting. Before finishing up the Scouts were reminded about the St Patrick’s Day Parade and to be at the Scout Den in Full Uniform for two o’clock on the day. The next Scout Activity is on Good Friday in Mount Melleray. Everyone is to be there for ten thirty with the usual gear for a day out, contact your Patrol Leaders for further details.
The meeting ended with the saying of the Scout Prayer. If anyone has any questions contact their Patrol Leader or any of the Scout Leaders.
Thanks
Thanks to Claire who joined us for the meeting to see if she might like to become part of the Leadership Team of Abbeyside Scout Group.

Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group
Those who still have to give money towards Annual Camp or have yet to pay their Annual Registration need to do so at this weeks meeting.
Venture Scout Group Meeting Saturday 8th March 2008
The Venture Scouts held their fortnightly meeting last Saturday night and quite a number of items were discussed as regards programme and Annual Camp. The attendance for the meeting numbers wise was good also. Anyone going on Camp to Spain 08 were informed that by the end of March a total of €300 in total, roughly half the actual cost of Camp must be paid. Some Ventures have already paid in excess of €100 so this just leaves the balance. As important if not more so, each individual was given a form to be filled out with details contained on each individuals passport. These details are needed in order to book flights to Spain and should be handed in to Brendan or Gearoid by this Thursday night either before the Cub Meeting begins at 7.15 or after it ends at 8.45. It cannot be stressed enough the importance of having these details. If they are not produced the individual will not be able to travel as a member of the Annual Camp Team/Party and will in fact have to make their own individual arrangements regarding flight times dates etc.
Also for discussion at the meeting was a planned trip to Cork City as well as a visit to a Quad Biking Venue on the same day. The final item on the agenda was a possible Overnight in the Cabin in Glenshelane in the coming weeks. Details of these two events will be checked out during the week and reported back to a meeting this coming Saturday night the 15th of March at 8 o’clock. This will be a short meeting to finalise the details of both or one or none of these events.
Pictured at the Waterford Scout County Venture Paintball Day organised by Sandy Griffin, Abbeyside Venture Scout Section Leader. From Left to Right are:- Cormac O'Mahony, Sandy Griffin, Venture Leader, Brendan Kiersey, Scout Leader, Jack Morrissey, Marco Hanrahan, Cathyl Reynolds.
The importance of everyone having Full Uniform was also a topic of discussion at the Meeting, irrespective of whether a Venture is going on Annual Camp or not. We are after all a Uniformed Organisation and we should all be proud to wear our Uniform.
During the meeting enquiries were made as to how Venture Leader Sandy was getting on with her epic journey across New Zealand and Australia. Muller reported that judging from e-mails it seems that she is having the time of her life! She is roughly half way through her three month long trek and no doubt will have loads of photographs and news to impart on her return to home.
You can make contact with the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.

All those who are going on Annual Camp to Spain that everyone needs to have a Valid Passport for going on Camp. We only need your Full Name as it appears on your Passport for booking the flights, because of Spanish Government Policy we will need the Passport Number as we get closer to Annual Camp. A notice was handed out during last weeks meeting looking for everyone’s names as they appear on their passports please return these as soon as possible, thank you.

Scouting In Ireland 100 Years
In 1907 Major General Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell took twenty boys on Camp to Brownsea Island, near Poole Harbour, Dorset. He was trying out an idea that had grown in his mind over many years. At Brownsea Island he saw that his idea of Scouting worked and in 1908 he published ''Scouting for Boys'' in fortnightly parts. At once all over England, boys took up the idea and formed their own Patrols. Then, find that they needed help, they asked grown-ups to give a hand, so Scouts Association was founded in 1908.
Scouting Ireland SAI began as the Dublin City and Dublin County Boy Scouts. In 1921 the name was changed to the Irish Free State Scout Council and it became a national organisation. In 1949, when Ireland became a Republic, the name was changed again to the Boy Scouts of Ireland and further changes in the 60's and 90's saw it become first the Scout Association of Ireland (SAI) and then Scouting Ireland SAI. Because Royal Charter protected this Association, no other Scout Group could be started in Ireland. Though a few individual Catholic Scout Groups existed earlier, it was not until 1927, that the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland (called Scouting Ireland CSI in the 1990’s) was founded by Fr Tom J Farrell with the help of his brother Fr. Ernest R Farrell. It was in Greystones Co. Wicklow that Father Ernest first went into action as founder and Chaplain of a Boy's Organisation carrying out hiking, drill and other activities of a Scouting nature. This was in the 1925 period. Also under the nom-de-plume "Sagart" he wrote a series of articles in Our Boys, the popular magazine published by the Christian Brothers, advocating the formation of an official Catholic Scout organisation. Fr. Tom Farrell was at this time a Curate in the Pro-Cathedral, Marlborough Street (the City Centre). Finally, the Constitution was drawn up and presented to the Hierarchy for examination the sanction and blessing of the Bishops of Ireland was given in November 1926 he was ready for it.
Scouting Ireland is a multi-denominational, co-educational, youth based association with a membership close to 40,000 across the island of Ireland. Scouting Ireland is the National Scout Association for Ireland and a member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement. Scouting Ireland was formed on 1st January 2004 from the two original Scout associations in Ireland, Scouting Ireland S.A.I. and Scouting Ireland (CSI). Both associations voted to join together to form a new single association in 2003, following a decision to set this process in motion in 1998.

We have put our Activities onto an on-line Calendar, you can see these on the Blog Spot or the Abbeyside Scout Group site.

Scout Troop Meeting
The meeting began at seven with the saying of the Scout Prayer. A much smaller number was gathered for the start of the meeting than usual. The meeting starts at Seven everybody. Those present seated around the Leaders table and spoke about plans for Annual Camp, it was decided to go for a Red T-Shirt with Yellow Group Logo, Gearoid compared it to the much loved Liverpool kit Jersey, this was greeted with a bit of a mixed reaction. The up coming Waterford Scout County Fun Weekend was also discussed, it was stressed that there would be a restriction on numbers allowed to go from the County ion total 220 to include Scouts and Leaders, a busy weekend is planed, you can check out the details on the Blog http://www.abbeyside.blogspot.com/ along with any other events coming up as we get the details. Menus from the ingredients each Patrol were given were talked about also, more work is needed by each patrol before the ‘Cooking Challenge’ date arrives, that being February 23rd, it should be interesting.
The Troop was then divided into two Teams for a quick league of Badminton this proved to be great fun and enjoyed by all present.
The Scouts then did a questionnaire and a brief talk on what they felt Scouting had to offer, Friendship, New Experiences, Travel, Fun, were some of elements that came out of this discussion.
