Patrol Leaders Training Weekend Mount Melleray
By Aaron Fraher APL, Tiger Patrol
After we got to our rooms and found a bed we got called to the ½ acre where we were divided into patrols and told the weekend was themed "Pirates of the kidney bean". Then our patrols got a map and had to find the leaders running the weekend in a field, where we proceeded to do compass work in our patrols,(bearing etc.),to try to get points. Supper at 12 o’clock was 3 sausages + bread. After that was bed but we didn’t sleep till about 3:30.The leaders woke us at 7:30 on Saturday. We had breakfast & were told to go to the 1/2 acre and were given 2 pulleys, a chicken,4 spuds, a saw, a shovel, an axe, a groundsheet and a lot of rope. We went into the glen and had to make a shelter, a trap, a fire, cook the chicken + spuds and make a spit for the fire. That night we had an indoor campfire with songs from each troop. Dinner was chicken & potatoes again. Sunday we had to devise a game for everyone to play for the morning. There was a treasure hunt for sweets & a plate of chips before people left at around 2:30p.m.
Aaron.

Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin
Unfortunately over the Christmas period we had people damage the Camping field by driving onto it with a motorised vehicle of some sort. On early Stephens Day late Christmas Night someone removed one of the gateposts holding the chain in the Avenue and drove on the Camping Field digging up the ground in doing so. The gatepost was buried in two/three feet of ground and was removed by the driver. Fintan has since replaced the post but the Camping Field will take a lot more to repair.
