Cub Pack Meeting

Padraig was given the job of leading the rest of the Cub Pack with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer. As the Cubs stood lined up in their Clans/Sixes, Eamonn and Brendan called ‘Roll Call’. As the Cubs readied for the first game of the night ‘Falling-In’ in order of height, tallest to the smallest. A bit of drill was covered, alert and at ease, using both English and Irish commands. The Cubs were then shown a new command called ‘left dress’. This command has the Cubs extend their left arm to the right shoulder of the Cub beside them then allowing that much space between each Cub. With this done the Cub Pack lined up the full length of the Scout hall. Numbering off in twos, with the twos then standing in behind the ones we had two teams.

The teams the lined up behind their Captains for tonight Clan Leader Malachy and Clan Leader Conor. The rules of tonight’s first game were explained. It was to be an egg and spoon race, but instead of the egg we had a small soft sponge ball and a dessert size spoon. The Cubs had to go over one table, under another table, touch the stage and run back to their team passing on the ball and spoon to the next Cub first Team finished and at ‘Alert’ were to be the winners. Dropping the ball would result in having to start again. This was not as easy as it may sound as some of the Cubs found it difficult to keep the ball on the sponge and sometimes speed was not always the answer to winning. The first game took a lot longer than expected but it was Malachy’s Team that won. So we took out the spoon to give Tom, Sean, David and the rest of Conor’s Team a chance to get even, but Cal, James, Ross and Team proved they were tops even after the course was changed by bringing in some chairs. Conor was sure the other members of his Team could win. So instead of going over and under in was just around the tables and chairs, but Conor himself made a mistake and cause their loss. So they were given a last go and it went down to a decision on which team was at ‘Alert’ best on this Conor’s Team final took victory.

There were just some few minutes for a quick game of ‘Crab Football’ that ended with no score. Crab Football is played using a Sponge Ball, with two teams playing into goals but all players are on their hands and feet with backs to the ground, they are not permitted to stand during the game and must make their way around the pitch like this, trying to score into the others goal with the ball by kicking it. Highest score wins.

The Cubs then formed up into their Clans once again for the finishing of the meeting. While in their Clans the Cubs were asked as to who would be interested in attending the Waterford County Cub Scout Quiz in Ferrybank, Waterford next Sunday 28th January, those who might like to go should let the Leaders know at this weeks meeting.

Any Cub that has not yet paid their registration for 2007 of €38-00 needs to do so this Saturday night. The Group Baseball Cap is available from the Leaders.

Next weeks meeting is at the usual time from seven to eight.

Padraig finished off the meeting as he started it with leading the rest of the Cubs in the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer.
Scout Group Meeting
The Patrols formed up and waited for the start of the meeting. As soon as everyone was present the Scout Prayer was said together. The Patrols then went to their corners where the got out tables and chairs. Eamonn called the ‘Roll’, with those having told the Leaders they would not be at the meeting being marked excused and those unaccounted for being marked absent. Each Patrol was given three sections of a map of Abbeyside, these had to be joined and some points of reference were put on the map, the most important being where the Scout Den was sited on the Map.

As part of tonight’s meeting the Patrols were going out doing some tasks around the Village. Before leaving the Den each Scout was given a Hi-Vis vest for safety.

As the Patrols made their way around Abbeyside they were sent a text message to do a further task. With the Patrols away from the Den Patrick and Marco decide to buy something nice treats for the rest of the Leaders but with Brendan’s money.

Once back at the den the Patrols got to put away their tables and chairs neat and tidy.

Sandy talked about next weeks hike. The Scouts were told to be at the Scout Den Sunday morning for nine o’clock.

Those who have not yet paid their registration for this year are reminded to do so. Also those intending to go on Annual Camp 2007, Arklow need to pay deposits so a final figure can be worked out.

Everyone was reminded that next weeks Scout meeting is Full Uniform.

The meeting ended with the saying of the Scout Prayer by all present
