Cub News
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Cubs have an adult call along to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Cub age is from 8 years to 11 years. The normal meeting is on a Saturday Night from seven to eight.
Cub Pack Meeting
This week the meeting was being organised by Sandy with Gearoid and Michael giving a helping hand. After Ross said the Cub Scout Prayer with the help of the other Cubs. New Clans were put together as there were five of the older Cubs going into the Scout Troop. A game of the ever popular North, South, East and West was played.
Gearoid and Michael then did ‘Roll Call’, as Sandy got everything ready for some Arts and Crafts using straws. This was most enjoyable for everyone. Some very interesting shapes were produced.
A relay game was then played which involved doing circles with one hand on the floor. As always both teams/Clans started and finished at Alert.
The ‘Good Deed’ reminders that were handed out a few weeks ago are to be brought back for this weeks meeting. This is one part of the ‘Bronze Arrow, most of the Cubs have completed the ‘Tenderfoot’ already and have been presented with them.
Next weeks meeting is ‘Full Uniform’ and Starts at Seven O’Clock. Ross finished the meeting off by saying the Cub Scout Prayer. The Cub Pack then did ‘Fall-Out’ and headed for home.
Scout News
If there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 11 years to 15/16 years. The normal meeting is on a Saturday Night from eight to nine.
Scout Troop Meeting
With new Patrols in the Scout Troop there were some promotions well done to new Patrol Leaders Tom Aird and Aaron Fraher, and to new Assistant Patrol Leader Kevin Brazel, these will join existing Patrol Leader Joe Conway and Assistant Patrol Leaders Tony O’Mahony, and Alex Fay.
The meeting as normal started with the saying of the Scout Prayer. As the new Patrols went to their Patrol Corners they were asked to talk about the upcoming County Challenge Weekend in Rathgormac, this will be based on a Helicopter Crash in the Mountains, and using some of the skills they have learned, Navigation (Map & Compass), Communication, First Aid, Shelter Building, as bases on a hike type event. The Patrols were given a booklet that showed some of these outdoor skills.
Eamonn and Kieran were busy taking the tents out of the store as we had some furry lodgers over the cold spell, they are of the Mouse type or should I say of were as we hear they are no more. The store is to be cleaned out full over the next few weeks.
North South East and West was played to burn off some of that extra energy. This was done on a knock out.
Michael and Gearoid did the ‘Roll’. Sandy did the game ‘Dizzy’ with the Scout’s, this is a relay game with each of the Scouts having to do circles before returning to their team.
The meeting time was fast coming to a close and Scouts were told that next weeks meeting would start at seven o’clock and is mufti, we will be outside doing some pitching of tents and other items. Scouts were told to wear clothes they do not mind getting some dirt on.
The Scout Prayer was said to finish off the meeting.
Venture Group
This Friday night at eight will see the first Venture Group meeting in Abbeyside for a number of years. This will for the moment only be made up of those after coming from the Scout Troop but may in time be open to more people. Best of luck to Sandy and co., there has been a lot of hard work done in the background to get this Section up and running.
