Calendar Of Events

We have put our Activities onto an on-line Calendar, you can see these on the Blog Spot or the Abbeyside Scout Group site.

Full Uniform

A Full Uniform is Black Polished Shoes/Boots, Navy/Black Socks, Uniform Trousers, Uniform Belt, Uniform Jumper (Cubs), Uniform Shirt (Scouts), Group Neckerchief (Plus a Spare), Woggle (Plus a Spare), Lanyard (Scouts), Whistle (Scouts), Badges, Group Cap, Uniform Jacket (Scouts). Scouts have been advised if buying hiking boots then they should maybe try and get black ones that way they can be used as part of their uniform and save on getting shoes.

Any Venture, Scout or Cub in the Unit longer than six weeks should have this Uniform. Scouting Ireland is a Uniformed Organisation. The Venture, Scout and Cub Scout Uniforms are all available from the Outdoor Adventure Store, Mc Curtain Street, Cork. Just ask the Leaders and they will help you out. If there is anyone who has been in the Cubs or Scouts and wishes to pass on their Uniform in part or full contact one of the Leaders. Thank You.

Cub Scout Pack - News & Information

Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting

Our meeting this week started with the saying of the Cub Scout Prayer followed by subs being taken up by Brendan. A talk was then given to the Cub Scout Pack involving the parts of the Scout Law, on the Altar in the Scout Den and paying particular attention to the parts "Trustworthy", "Friendly" and "Kind" and how these play a part in our lives by the way we treat other Cubs, those at school, our friends and family. How by saying the Cub Scout Prayer at each meeting we promise not to pick on those who may be different from ourselves, either in how the dress, talk or look. How we should not tolerate Bullies, or those who make fun of our friends. It is hope that this will be the last time the Leaders will have this discussion with the Cub Scout Pack.

We then did a big part of the Cubs Bronze Arrow Badge, which is called a ‘Diorama’ or ‘a scene in a box’. This scene was an underwater scene made using some materials collected from Ballyvoile Cove at the end of the Hike the previous Sunday, such as shells, small stones and seaweed. The Cubs also used sand from Abbeyside Strand, crepe paper and paper cut outs of different types of fish that were stuck onto sticks. When all put together each clans scene was very impressive and showed how the Cubs have learned to work together as a team over the last number of months. A prize was given for the best scene and this went to Darragh McGrath's Clan who narrowly beat the Link Badge Clan. Once everything was cleaned up and put away a notice was given out about the upcoming weekend away in Glenshelane. Gearoid also gave out the first part of the Centenary Badge to everyone and final prayer was said and everyone went home.

Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are to run from Seven Fifteen until Nine O'Clock.

Parents are asked to ensure their son’s are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.

If there are any questions about the Activities or the Abbeyside Cub Scout Pack in general then you can contact Gearoid Fraher, Cub Scout Pack Section Leader on 087-2034172 or any of the other Abbeyside Leaders.

Scout Troop – News & Information

Saturday Night Meeting

The meeting started with the usual saying of the Scout Prayer and following a late text by the Scout Leader was mufti instead of Full Uniform, Brendan reminded everyone that this meant your Neckerchief should be worn, as is the case for all Activities that are not Full Uniform. Everyone that was on the previous weeks hike had enjoyed the day. So it was straight down to work as next weekend we are camping in Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin. Tents were taken from their storage areas and pitched out in the field, with Aaron and Tom in charge while Joe and Chris tried to clear some space in the main store. The area on the stage was also attacked and the age-old problem of what tent goes with what poles, and where are the pegs gone. Well done to the Scouts for getting stuck in. Eamonn and Michael were in the Den doing a bit of sewing on one of the ridges tents. All agreed that it would take a full day and a lot of people to sort out all areas of the Scout Den. The meeting ended with the Scouts being given a notice about next weekends Camp in Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin. Those going to Camp were given an Application Form to get their European Health Insurance Card. All said the Scout Prayer, with two Scouts saying the prayer a second time. The Scouts were then given the order to fall out.

Scouts are asked to ensure they are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.

New Members

New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
