Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting this week started with the saying of the cub scout prayer followed by subs being taken up by Brendan. It was then time to go out into the field to play a game of rounder's with the two captains for the night being Darragh McGrath and Conor Foley. Conor decided to pitch leaving Darragh's team batting. By the end of the game time Darragh's team had five home runs with three men left over. This game will be continued at the next meeting with Conor's team batting to try to win the game. We then moved inside where both Gearoid and Brendan went through all the aspects of the Tenderfoot badge with everyone, especially all the newer cubs who are due to be invested before we finish up for the summer. This also proved to be a good exercise for the cubs already invested as it was a good source of revision, never a bad thing! We then played a game of switch, which we haven't played in a while. This proved very popular and a good way to get to know each other as everyone who got into the middle had to introduce themselves to the rest of the cubs before picking the next letter. Gearoid then gave everyone completing the Tenderfoot badge five good turn slips to be completed by this Thursday and returned to him at this weeks meeting. Final prayer was then said and everyone was dismissed.
Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are to run from Seven Fifteen until Nine O'Clock.
Parents are asked to ensure their son’s are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.
If there are any questions about the Activities or the Abbeyside Cub Scout Pack in general then you can contact Gearoid Fraher, Cub Scout Pack Section Leader on 087-2034172 or any of the other Abbeyside Leaders.
If a Cub is unable to attend any Activity, Event or Meeting, you are asked to please lets us know in advance, this can be done by text or phone on the above number.

If you have any questions before then you can E-Mail the Cubs on cubpack@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Gearoid will get back in contact with you.
Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Night Meeting
The meeting this week began with all scouts falling in and the saying of the scout prayer. We the brought all the hike tents out into the field for pitching to make sure that each one had poles, pegs, bag, flysheet etc and that they were clean as well. P.L.'s Aaron and Tom were in charge of this with the help of A.P L Tony, also James, Conor Harty, Owen,Dylan,Declan,Chris and new scout Kieran. P.L. Joe took charge of clearing out and putting the tents back into the store with the help of Conor and Malachy Lawless. Thanks also to leaders Ciaran Walsh, Kieran Harty, Brendan and Gearoid who helped out on the night. Once the tents were put away Ciaran refereed a game of soccer in the field with some suspicious decisions it must be said and some very weird goal celebrations from Tom and Declan in particular. Could it be anything to do with the fact that they support the team who have won the European Cup" only three times." We then moved inside where subs were taken by Gearoid and a letter was then handed out to everyone going to camp giving flight and accommodation details etc . Gearoid also told everyone that next weeks meeting would be a mufti meeting and nobody was to be late. Final prayer was said and everyone was dismissed.
Scouts are asked to ensure they are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group Meeting
The Venture section held their fortnightly meeting last Saturday night and a number of items came up for discussion. It was decided that next Saturday evening at six o’ clock the section will meet on Clonea beach for a canoeing session of approx’ one hour. The session will last at least one hour, cost €10 and Venture Scout Jack will be making the arrangements! No section meeting will be held on the weekend of June 21st as this date clashes with our next scheduled catering weekend in Melleray where the Catering Crew is on duty for the Waterford Scout County Cub Camp Weekend. This promises to be a busy session as we may be catering for up to 200 hungry mouths!
As Annual Camp – Spain 2008 draws ever closer once again the members of the section are/were reminded that camp fees need to be paid immediately. Those not paying on time means others suffer in that, due to delays, surcharges will be applied to the camp fee by for example airlines etc. It is vital too, that right now anyone who as of yet has not renewed or applied for a new European health card should do so!
The future of the venture section following this year’s annual camp was also discussed. The group leader explained to those present at the meeting, what may be happening next September. A review of the entire Group/Unit will be undertaken in order to get all sections running as smoothly as possible. Taking such things as numbers in Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venture Scouts, and importantly Leaders into account!
All section members are once again reminded that uniform and camp fees are a priority and have to be sorted out! Deadlines for payment of camp fees have to be met!
You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
