Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Thursday Night Cub Scout Pack Meeting
Our meeting this week began with Daniel saying the cub scout prayer followed by subs being taken up by Gearoid. It was then out into the field to continue the game of rounder's from the previous week with Conor's team needing to score more than five home runs and have three men left over before the time limit ran out. This they did with the greatest of ease scoring eight home runs very quickly before Darragh's team new what had hit them. Mind you it must be said it was with the absence of the latter team's captain. We then went into the den to practice our singing for the Campfire for the upcoming Waterford Scout County Annual Cub Camp Weekend on June 20-22. This went pretty well and it needed to as their will be approx 250 other cubs listening to us on the night. We then practiced for the investiture night to be held in the den on Thursday July 3rd. Here the cubs went through what will be expected of them on the night and what they need to do in front of their leaders, the special guests present and most importantly their parents. We will be practicing for this again before the big night. Gearoid then gave out notices about the investiture, the cub weekend in Mt. Melleray and he also gave the cubs details of merit badges they were to work on over the next two weeks. He then reminded everyone that we would have no meeting the following Thursday as the leaders would be in Mt.Melleray. Daniel then said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
Cub Scout Meetings from April onwards are to run from Seven Fifteen until Nine O'Clock.
Parents are asked to ensure their son’s are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Night Meeting
The meeting started with everyone falling in and the saying of the scout prayer. Subs were then taken up by Gearoid after which P.L Aaron got a bag of poles out of the store and an Icelandic tent to see if the poles fitted the tent. He was helped by A.P.L Tony, also Declan, Conor Harty, Owen and Kieran. We also got a groundsheet for the tent, made sure we had Dolly’s and also enough pegs. Once this was done we packed away the tent and put it back into the store, the two patrols then made a list of what they thought were the necessary items required for camp this year in Spain. Trust me it makes interesting reading ! A badminton tournament was then played. First doubles with Aaron and Owen being victorious and then a singles tournament with Aaron winning between the scouts but then he got beaten by a certain leader who shall not be named! It was then out into the field for a quick game of soccer before we came back into the den. Gearoid told everyone that there would be no meeting next week as the leaders would be in Melleray with the cubs and also on crew. Final prayer was said and everyone went home.
Scouts are asked to ensure they are on or before time, as late arrivals tends to disrupt the meeting.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to one of the Leaders. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
Venture Scout Group – Information
Venture Scout Group Meeting
On Saturday last the group headed to Clonea beach to soak up some sun and have a bit of fun in the surf! On arrival just before six, all was ready and waiting in preparation for the session. Thanks to the organisational skills of Rhyss and Jack who set up the session every got on the water in double quick time in order to make the most of the session. The evening sunshine was very pleasant and with calm sea conditions everything was excellent for “messing about” in! Waves were very scarce although with the amount of people falling in deliberately so, this created a lot of rough conditions. Section leader Sandy proved just why she has a degree in outdoor education as she showed off her finely honed skills which any Olympian would be proud of. Meanwhile muller looked on in shock and awe from the beach. The meeting finished shortly after seven and all present were reminded that the next official section meeting will be held on Saturday the 28th of June at the den at eight o clock. Those going on annual camp (Spain) are once again reminded that camp fees must be paid as quickly as possible! Cub section leader Gearoid who is looking after this aspect of camp, is the person to get in touch with!
All section members are once again reminded that uniform and camp fees are a priority and have to be sorted out! Deadlines for payment of camp fees have to be met!
You can contact the Abbeyside Venture Scout Group by E-Mail on venturegroup@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Sandy/Brian will get in contact with you.
