29th April Scout Notes 2006

After an absence of some weeks from the den on Saturday night’s it was back in action with the normal cub and scout meetings last Saturday night. The cub meeting saw a small attendance arrive in full uniform and all concerned were properly and fully kitted out in their uniform. After a uniform inspection and because the evening was such a fine one it was out to the field for a few games of rounders. It took a little while for all concerned to get the hang of things but when they did some great games were played. Leaders Muller and David appeared to be waging their own personal war although it would be fair to say that Muller came out on top on the occasion. The meeting this Saturday night will be a mufti (non-uniform). At the end of the meeting the cubs took home a notice explaining about the meeting to be held on Saturday 13th of May when we will be looking for two families to host a clan overnight in their homes. If you can help us out on this occasion please let the leaders know at the upcoming meeting!
Scouts
The scout group were back in action following the catering in Melleray last weekend and as with the cub meeting a smaller than normal number was in attendance. This meeting was to have seen the patrol leaders choose new patrol members in order to be prepared for annual camp and the remainder of the scouting year ahead. However as only two p/l’s were present on the night the leaders took over the responsibility for this task. The new patrols will be announced at the meeting this coming Saturday. This particular meeting will begin at ten o clock in the morning at the den and will continue at least for the morning and perhaps on into the afternoon. The reason being, that each patrol will be doing a hike. The catch is that each patrol hike involves a mystery route, known only to the leaders. The exact route will be made known on the morning of the hike itself. The only certainty is that each patrol will end up at one of three swimming pools around Dungarvan where the hike will finish with a swim. Everyone is reminded to bring a packed lunch, neckerchiefs and of course swimming gear. Plans are also afoot for the newly constituted scout patrols to camp or stay indoors at the home of one of their members on Saturday the 13th of May. Following this troop meeting the patrols are also considering their options for the lone patrol camping award which is being held at four separate locations around the country at the end of June. The idea behind this weekend is that the patrol leader and his patrol plan every aspect from transport to food and also get to meet patrols from across the country. The locations are Mount Melleray scout centre, Kilcully scout centre Cork, Killaloe national water activity centre Clare and Larch Hill in Dublin. Every patrol who participates in this weekend gets a badge for their uniform. More details on this later.
Glenshelane Cabin
Last Sunday afternoon leaders and some scouts arrived in the glen to give our cabin it’s first every outside protective coat of preservative. Following their efforts the cabin is looking resplendent in its new coat! In a couple of weeks time we will be applying the second coat. If you could spare two hours, know how to handle a paint brush we need you! Well done to Brendan, Eamonn, Muller, Gearoid, Kieran, Geraldine and James. Your efforts are appreciated.
