Cub Scout Pack - News & Information
Monday Night Cub Section Meeting 15/12/08
Monday the 15th December was our last meeting of 2008. We had a fancy dress theme on the night where both cubs and leaders took part. Prizes were given for best pictures and best costume. In our best costume category, 3rd place went to Rudolf aka Robert Miller. 2nd place went to Santa Clause aka James McGrath. 1st place was awarded to the Snowball aka Larry Brazel. Great fun was had by all and well done to all the lads who put the effort in and dressed up. After a few lively games Sandy handed out sweets and crisps to the cubs as they worked on their Christmas themed drawings. Our Monday night meetings are fully up and running and we look forward to more activities and events in 2009. Cubs are reminded that we will start back on Monday 12th January. Parents are also reminded of our annual registration fee which is due in January. We hope to see you all then.
Parents and Cubs are to note the new meeting time for Monday night meetings. The meeting will start at the usual time of 7pm but will now finish at 8.15pm. Please attend meetings on time. Cubs are also reminded that they must have Full Correct Uniform for upcoming events. Uniforms must be purchased from the Outdoor Adventure Store (Scout Shop) in Cork, they cannot be ordered from the Leaders.
Thursday Night Cub Section Meeting 17/12/08
This weeks meeting started with the saying of the cub scout prayer by Luke followed by subs being taken up by Gearoid, who then spoke to the cub pack about the cub of the year award and also clan of the year and what each prize was based on such as attendance at weekly meetings, uniform presentation, attendance at troop and county activities and general behavior towards leaders and fellow cubs. He then told everyone that it was once we came back after Christmas that both competitions could be won or lost. Then Mandy got the cub pack to make a Christmas card to bring home using some white card, glue, glitter, cotton wool and markers which everyone enjoyed and it must be said some of the cards were of the very highest standard. This also finished off the artist merit badge for the new cubs which they will receive the new year. Mandy then gave the cubs some biscuits, icing, buttons and hundreds and thousands to make their own little master pieces with which everyone thoroughly enjoyed even though the den may have looked like a war zone after wards. A small Christmas present was then given out to all who attended on the night before Luke said the final prayer and everyone was dismissed.
Parents and Cubs are to note the meeting time for Thursday Night Section Meetings. The meeting will start at the usual time of 7:15pm but will finish at 8.45pm. Please attend meetings on time. Cubs are also reminded that they must have Full Correct Uniform for upcoming events. Uniforms must be purchased from the Outdoor Adventure Store (Scout Shop) in Cork, they cannot be ordered from the Leaders.

Scout Troop – News & Information
Saturday Scout Troop
The Scouts had a long break over Christmas with the way the dates were, our Leaders however were busy with the Glenshelane Hike Day, A Leaders Night Out and a visit to Galway to look at a Campsite all in the space of a few days. The Glenshelane Hike Day did not work as planned due to a number of factors that did not stop Group Leader Brian and Scout Leader Brendan checking out the bridges towards the Grotto. And we are delighted to say are all in perfect working order and have been built to last, famous last words. Tea and a sandwich was enjoyed on our return to the Cabin before heading home. (Thanks for the tea and sandwich Brian.)
There was a good turnout of Leaders for our leaders night out and much fun and laughter was had. We shall leave it at that, as the following morning we headed to Galway, leaving Abbeyside at half nine for a ten hour 320mile round trip to Clonbur Co Galway to Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre. Where on a very cold and frosty morning, day, and evening, we braved the elements. The temperature on the day never rose above 2 Degrees as we travelled up the Country. The site itself is on the southern shore of Lough Mask, near the Mayo border. We hope to have more information in the coming weeks.
The Scout Troop are back in action this Saturday Night at Seven and is Full Uniform, those who have not yet paid their Annual Registration are reminded to do so.
New Members
New members are always welcome so if there is anyone who may be interested in joining the Scouts have an adult call along with you to the meeting and talk to Brendan. The Scout age is from 10½ years to 15/16 years. Scout Meetings are on a Saturday night from seven to nine.
Contact
If any parent has a question about the Scout Troop then they should talk to Brendan before or after a Scout Meeting. You can E-Mail the Abbeyside Scout Troop on scouttroop@abbeysidescoutgroup.com and Brendan will get in contact with you.
Photo’s/Picture’s
Just before Christmas I was given a loan of a large collection of photo’s from the eighties and nineties bringing back some fond memories, I am hoping to get these up on the blog soon. If there is anyone out there who has Photo’s from the past, recent or further back that they would like to send our way and we could share them with others via the web or local papers, that would be great and much appreciated.
Scribe.
